now i had a father that was at the forefront of the society's activites, and i know about some of the "perks" that come with that.
Well, I doubted it too (on the age thing), but I am just reporting what I was told. She also did not recall the fairy boat reception story. I think that the point here is those special privileges - the only way to get them revoked is to challenge the teachings. Certainly not for being pretty worldly, etc.

I had a talk last night with someone who was at Bethel during the R.Franz scandal (who shall remain nameless). They say that J.Ben was married with children (as she recalls best) even before Ray got kicked out. Now that timeline, if true and remembered right, would put some pretty interesting thoughts up on the reason for leaving and the law degree, etc.
I still say that special privileges for the rich and famous suck it pretty bad. Especially if you look at the ordinary life of a Bethel guy.

Danny, I don't know if you or others have posted on this before - but:
Do we remember that weird case where an A10 attack jet just went off the scope after a training mission in Arizona? After an intensive search they found it crashed into the top of a mountain in Colorado (way up high in the Rocky Mts. close to the continental divide). It had live bombs on board and they never found them. The cause was put down to suicide over family issues. This was about the time of Desert Storm the first.
This guy was a lost JW - again, they found a lot of JW literature around his AFB apartment. He was being shunned by his mother for leaving and going into the air force.

Also let me just say - I have NOTHING against the Oldsmobile. (have owned several and a boat with an olds 455).
NOTHING against Judah Ben either - seemed like a nice kid when I met him years ago. I think he would make a great apostate.
I just thought that it was ironic that this American Icon of a car should meet its demise long before the end of the system of things. Ransome E. Olds was one of the pioneers of the automobile in this country and dates way back to the times of Russell.
But then, there is so much irony about this thread. Like Dominic Dunne says, Power, Privilige, and Justice...

I had not had the pleasure of meeting Ezra until this evening. I must say, at least Ezra is much more pithy than the HAMAS letter writer.
After I looked through those last eight posts, and the post history, I have a couple of questions for Ezra:
1. Does your Kingdom Hall or WTS provide an open forum site where some of us can freely sign on with opposing viewpoints?
2. Have I ever said anything mean to you? If so, I am sorry. If anyone else has and you can prove it up, I will act pro-bono to take your side in a sort of hypothetical way - even if I do not agree with it at all.

for those who are fading, do you feel the pressure building as the memorial approaches?
family members who otherwise are busy with their own interests suddenly start paying more attention, dropping hints and holding their breath as it were.
then there are the invitations.
LOL Daystar - about the unused emblems...I had to do this ceremony twice during my elder/servant years as I recall. I believe that both times the outline (it is like a public talk outline) actually said this, so I don't believe that part was some local ingenuity. I forgot to add that some elders actually tasted it before the memorial to see if it was OK for the anointed. The magic did not take place until the first prayer.
The outlines even went into detail about what KIND of wine it had to be. I always thought that was super-silly because most certainly ancient wine (or beer for that matter) could hardly even resemble what we have today. As usual, WT makes up rules that cannot have any historical or bible verification. That business about having it again for sick people exactly one lunar month later is a perfect example - so what if the jews did passover that way. The gospels do not command a certain day or days.
Also, as someone else posted: wow-how depressing and creepy this must have looked to outsiders! We just passed it around and looked at it like it was poison. Remember how everybody tried to peek at each other to see who might have drunk it? Of course, that was wrong for the R&F but OK for the young MS guys they assigned to count partakers.
Now, it must be admitted that the second time I had to do the memorial I was like the Tom Petty lyrics (-already gone). The outline did not get followed - but that is the subject of another thread which I am saving for "sometime" in April.
