I never liked the illustration Jesus used in the first place. So what if the sparrow doesn't know where its food comes from - humans are a bit more complex and dynamic than little birds and our lives are much more complicated. Isn't it also said that a man who does not work is not deserving of food? So if I am supposed to work, why am I made to feel guilty if I occassionaly feel anxious about it? At least a little work anxiety has its reward, not like being anxious about if my time is enough - OH NOES I ONLY GOT 8 HOURS IN THIS MONTH!! - or if Bro. Mike Handler Extrordinaire sees that I didn't study my Pulp Religion Monthly magazine.
I'm sick of it. FUCK EM ALL.

Is the world out to get you?
by free2beme ini have spoken to people more often then i could ever count, who seem to think it is.
they claim that things are always going wrong for them or that odds never seem to be in their favor.
yet to me, when looking closer, i think there are bigger issues of responsibility and paying attention to what is happening that is involved.

Its just a case of the classic self-fulfiling prochecy syndrome. If you wait for something to happen, and expect it, it will happen, not just because of chance, but because your subconscious will help make it happen. You really limit your opportunities and potential when you live your life like that. There is way too much to do, and life itself is too precious to feel that everyone/thing is out to get you.

Heh, I've seen that crazy lady a few times. Everytime I see her I get flashbacks of what it used to be like growing up as a JW in a single-parent household. She scares me more that any witches or demons would. She's basically ensured that her children are someday going to leave her religion.

Calling all BETHELITES
by YoursChelbie inif you have previously served at bethel, can you post word for word the "vow of poverty" that you are asked to take?
is this a written document that you keep?
has the wording of it changed a lot or always the same?

"You wrote: "Everyone just plays along with it and treats it like a game."
Sort of like the "unrelated" donation for literature purchased huh? "
gary: Yes, "paying Caesar's things to Caesar" is more of a game that is played with the superior authirities. In other words, they do not follow Christ's commandment seriously. -

Reasoning behind no "God Bless You!" when sneezing
by kristyann inwhat, exactly, is the reasoning behind jws not being allowed to say "god bless you!
" after someone sneezes.
i remember going to my boyfriend's house and no one said it and i thought it was just plain rude... but they are rude people in every other regard, anyway.

I never say "bless you" when people sneeze, and hate it when others say it to me. It is simple superstition, which makes it stupid and silly.
Why not say "bless you" when someone stumbles walking? Or when they cough? Im not even a jw at heart anymore, but I will never say bless you.
But hey, I guess people get a kick out of absurdity. -

Actually, in the vow of poverty document I specifically remembered it mentioning how if you made any money working then you were to hand it over to the "Religious Order of Jehovah's Witnesses." Of course, if you to a G-job to make a few extra bucks, no one gives their money away... they rationalize this by usually taking a vacation day - that way they can say that while on 'vacation' they were relieved of their vow of poverty - although I do not believe this is written down anywhere.
As far as paying tax on your allowance, that does not happen. The vow of poverty is to specifically releive you of paying any sort of income tax. I didnt pay a red cent of taxes the entire time I was there.
THe overall view of the vow of poverty at Bethel is somewhat of a farce. Everyone just plays along with it and treats it like a game. -
