It seems to me that every generation has ones who herald the end of the world. Because every generation ends. Such horrible things have happened in times passed - take the Black Plague for instance: it killed 35 million people, a third of Europe's population at that time. If something like that happened nowadays, you'd have EVERY religion saying it was the end of the world, especially people like JW's. Now we get down to such small things (comparably) as planes crashing into buildings killing 3000 people and we think that is a 'sign of the times.' If the Rwanda genocide happened in the US, the Society would have declared the Great Tribulation, no doubt.
The more I look at it, its just Western culture assigning moral guilt on a society that has advanced too fast in the last 150 years.

Fulfillment of Prophecy
by daniel-p inok, i'm going to try to phrase this as articulately as i can - i'm not completely sure what i'm asking here, but if you have any thoughts on the matter please comment.
my question is this: do you ever feel like all that wt prophecy about the fall of babylon makes sense when you watch the news or read the newspaper?
sometimes a member of my family or a friend will rattle off on some bit of news they heard regarding the pope or a country's leader that seems to fall in line with the watchtower's take on revelation and i get all alarmed and alert - sort of a subconscious reaction.

"THe bethellites in my congo are always working bethel overtime"
yes, because the first thing you are taught at Bethel is your 3 priorities:
1. Family
2. Bethel
3. Congregation
Meaning, of course, that Bethel work comes before meeting attendance. A lot of Bethelites take advantage of this and linger around late at work so they don't have to go all way out to their meeting. Don't blame them, really, -

Advice anyone? On how men think and faithfulness.
by gabriella inthis may be kind of a long story but any input or advice would be really appreciated.. i have been married for three years to a really good guy.
he's my best friend and confidante.
not the most spontaneous person i have ever met (he says it is because he is very comfortable in the relationship).

"Is it possible to stay friends with a girl that you had hit on? "
No. His ego is wounded. He sounds like sleaze to me.... -

One less thing I could get df'd for!
by Deleted inwell, if exit polls are grounds to call the presidency just hours into the vote count then i can conclude that in only 3 days of quitting the tobacco habit that this it!.
7 years ago when i left the borg i started smoking cigars, as it went well with scotch, and was deliciously a naughty thing to do after 18 years in the cult(ure).
i started to inhale, as i am prone to do, and then concluded i would be better off with cigarettes.

That's horrible. The way that it was done it sounded like a gang initiation type thing - you know, where you have to kill or rape someone to get in or something like that.

And just think - all those people who say "no I'm not interested" when I offer them the latest copy of Pulp Religion Monthly have full knowledge that they are refusing the opportunity to come to an accurate understanding of God and live forever on a paradise on Earth!!!

"My question is, what were these guys doing - that can be jettisoned so precipitously? I doubt that they had 500-1000 people just wandering around the factory or laundry. What work is being dropped to permit their release?"
Basically, Bethel is a very inefficient bereaucratic institution with all levels of "accomodation" for those who are "made-men." Among the mid to upper ranks, there is a good-ol-boy network to the extreme. -

This person will then say something like "praise Jehovah," "we need the new world..." "Satan's time is up..." and other such apocalyptic rhetoric. Sometimes I get all panicky and actually begin to think 'maybe the world is going to end,' but then I try to remind myself that people will look for anything that seems to fall in line with what they want to hear. - I guess I would just like to hear your ideas on HOW and WHY people do this and how common it is. -

"The WTS is self-insured."
I don't know about that. When I was at Bethel, the Bethelites were insured but these were contract with outside insurance companies. At least that's the way it was when I was there in the early part of this decade.
