Isn't it weird how Jehovah's Witnesses think God has a hand in everything. I know because I once thought that way. If I was late it was because God was teaching me a lesson about punctuallity, if I was hurt it was because Jehovah wanted me to appreciate perfection when the new order arrived, whenever I was made to struggle for anything it was to becaused God was teaching me something. How naive I was.

What I Observed Last Night At The Kingdom Hall
by stevieb1 ini am still one of jehovah's witnesses and i still attend meetings at the kingdom hall though i am quite disgruntled over many of the society's teachings and the practices that go on in the congregation.
i have read everything about jw's both pro and con, (i have one of the largest collections of material related to jw's in europe) and i have contributed scholarly articles to the society on many occasions.
i could talk about many things but i'll just talk about what i observed last night.

When I used to attend I was one of those sitting alone with no comfort. I'm not usually an outgoing person, but I thought "I'm in the house of God, spending quality time with other faithful believers of God's word. I should be accepted with open arms." How wrong I was. Whenever I would approach a group to join in conversation they would stop speaking, mumble a hello, and the group would break up only to regroup minutes later somewhere else. For years I put up with this since I kept going - glutton for punishment I guess.
stevieb, you are 100% correct.

Evil: Live With It. It's a Game
by Farkel inis good a part of god or is god a part of good?
which is the bigger thing which contains the other?
most people would say that god is the container of good and not the other way around.. if this is true, then good comes from god.

I agree with farkel here. Good can't exist without evil. In the very beginning of human existance God created Adam (according to the Bible), then He created Eve. Then He laid down the law - "Do whatever you choose, anything and everything is cool by me, just dont eat that fruit." Right then the concept of good and evil entered into human thought process. Everything I want to do is good except...
As soon as God forbade ANYTHING He made it evil, therefore He is the originator of the concept.

Yoga, Star-trek, meditation.... AND NOW RUNES!!!
OMIGAWD! I think this is an apostle site... a prostate, whatever.
This must end!
Here is a little slice of conflicted's life:
Picture me sitting on my yard-sale sofa, arm around my non-believer wife watching star wars in my speedracer t-shirt. Not a single piece of JW literature in sight - I'm content and happy - meditating about how grand it is to be free.
This must be why the JW's never visit me - They can practically see the demon infestation I live with.

What's Right about "Right?"
by Farkel inhang on, folks.
if a) is true then god is arbitrary: anything he says is right, is right.
so you admit that gods decisions are purely arbitrary?.

I dont think I expressed exactly what I was trying to say. So, I will try again. This is just my view - of course there is no way to prove it one way or another - that's what makes this whole topic a mystery.
I stated that Our relationship with God in this context was "similar" to a parent/child relationship - not exactly the same, just similar. One of the differences would be what willy_think brought up - At some point the child grows up and adopts the standards of the adult, or makes up a standard of their own. In this case God has set a standard for us to live by and we will never attain a level where we can change God's law. At the same time, God can break the laws he has set forth (murder etc.) because he IS the standard and not subject to it where it pertains to His actions. What I mean is His standard for us is set in stone - we cannot change it, on the other hand, He defines His own standard, and therefore He IS the standard for His actions.
Two different standards - one to which we as humans are subject to, and one by which God himself is defined. The problem we are having here is that we are trying to hold God to the standards He set forth for us, but I think that is presumptuous on our part. Nowhere is it written that God is subject to ANY rules because He IS the creator and can do whatever He wants irregardless of what He has commanded of us.

Ooooooh! She watches Star-Trek too. Will the demonization ever cease? I can see it now - poor Esmeralda strapped to a bed riddled with demons and the GB standing in the background saying, "We said yoga was bad for her."
Pitiful and sad :(
