Doco on Exclusive Brethren on tv tonite in NZ
by yaddayadda in(please excuse the lack of paragraphs in this post as this forum's dinosaur software does not support mozilla firefox or netscape!!
) as many know, the exclusive brethren have many similarities with the jw's, particularly their cultish black-and-white view of the world, seeing everyone else as 'worldlings' and the rest of the world as in control of the devil, believing only they have a chance at salvation, and their rigid shunning policy.
the eb are, however, more strict than the jw's, not permitting tv watching, their kids are not allowed to go to normal schools, the woman must wear something on their head, etc.

Are you really free from the Watchtower?
by yaddayadda inthe thread on how long it took you to get out of the organisation made me think.
i honestly think anyone that spends more than half an hour per day on anti-jw sites like this is, psychologically, not out of the organisation at all, despite their best protests.
the watchtower clearly still fascinates them to the point of an obsessive, compulsive need to frequently post on this website and others.

Can you get d'fd if the elders never catch up with you
by yaddayadda incan the elders hold a jc and disfellowship someone in absentia, without even making contact with you beforehand?
can they just summons you to a jc by, say, leaving a note in your letterbox or a message on your answerphone, and if you don't turn up, diss you anyway?

What the Quest for the Historical Jesus Missed
by yaddayadda inas part of my journey into scrutinising the evidence for and against the reliability of the gospels, i've just finished reading "a new perspective on jesus - what the quest for the historical jesus missed" by james d.g.
dunn (phd, university of cambridge).
(have so far also read n t wright's "who was jesus" - and now making my way through "the incredible shrinking son of man" by r m price - so far it's disappointing.

Is questioning at the bookstudy still allowed?
by yaddayadda ini remember when i was a kid it wasn't unusual for someone to ask a question of the conductor during the bookstudy.
not that often but occasionally.
in my most recent years as a dub i can't recall anyone ever asking any questions.

What is the Kingdom and who is in it?
by yaddayadda inthe jw's have a very narrow definition of what the kingdom is.
they limit its meaning to a heavenly, governmental rulership of 144,000 only.
but the kingdom must be broader than that.

False "Reasoning from the Scriptures" (all rights reserved)
by yaddayadda inthe reasoning from the scriptures book lists 7 criteria for determining which religion is right?
putting aside for the moment the assumption in the societys question, that there is only one right religion, which 3 of the societys criteria do you think are the weakest and which 3 are the strongest, and why?
(those who dont believe that the bible is gods word please try and suspend your disbelief when answering) .
