Want evidence that government intervention can work? Loot at FDR's New Deal. No it did not lift our country out of the Great Depression, WW2 did that, but it did ease the suffering of millions. It gave people a hand up, not a hand out.
I have yet to hear one solid argument from Right Wingers that proves anything negative about Pres. Obama. If the best you can come up with is pretty pictures of unicorns and name calling, then your in a deeper hole than I thought.

One more thought.......Democracy and government being beholden to the people are not new ideas. Our founding fathers borrowed from the ancient Greeks, the Romans, some minor principles common in England, and the ideologies of the French Revolution. What was special was our constitution. That binding document which layed out the concept of liberty, which set up the system of checks and balances between the 3 branches of our government, and which placed itself as the protector of it's citizenry.
And then came Pres. George W. Bush with hatred, fear, and the Patriot Act. Then came eight years of effort to shred our Constitution. We the people allowed it to happen for a while, but we spoke last November! In the end our Constitution prevailed and the enemies of true freedom prevailed.

I find this effort by right wingers to criticize Obama under the guise of "the left did it to Bush, so now it's our turn" to be very childish. On Sept. 12 2001 the entire country was behind Pres. Bush. He squandered the trust we gave him, and earned the criticism he got. Pres. Obama has been in office less than a week, and is already being overwhelmed with right wing partisan sewage. Leading Republicans are openly stating they hope he fails. The majority of the country hopes he succeeds, and he will. His stimulus plan for the people will get passed without any Republican support, and it will help the economy. Where will Republicans stand then? Those who stand on the wrong side of history usually pay for it a long time.

Communist? Socialist? Two more straw man labels. There is nothing socialist or communist about any proposals on the table by the Obama administration. Need proof? Study our nations history. Were the measures enacted by FDR socialism? The real goal of the right wing claim that Democrats are trying to socialize the government is to dredge up impressions of the Soviet Union and red communism. It is fear mongering at it's worst! It also sidesteps the fact that the Bush administration presided over one of the greatest periods of government expansion in U.S. history, capped off with a 1 trillion dollar handout to the Republican favored financial industry.Was that socialism?
Now that Pres.Obama and the Democrats want to extend the same amount of money in a bailout for the people, Republicans are suddenly concerned that our government might be entering the realm of Joseph Stalin.
Straw man, straw man, straw man.

The term "liberal" has become a straw man. It is used frequently by Rush and his buddies at Fox News to drum up fear and hatred. Most Americans are too worried about keeping their jobs and houses to worry about the scary liberals with pitchforks that Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck swear are just around the corner.
