I never felt good enough to be loved by Jehovah, or anyone else, for that matter. So I explained away the fact that I didn't feel Jehovah's love by blaming myself. Maybe I couldn't feel love at all, even though Jehovah loved me, I didn't feel it because there was something wrong with me. It had to be my fault.
Then my first child was born, and I felt a love for her immediately and totally. I would have died for her in an instant if it would have saved her from pain or suffering. And then I knew there was nothing wrong with my ability to feel love or to love someone.
When I was pregnant with my second child, I couldn't imagine loving anyone as much as I loved my first... but when he was born, I loved him just as much. Immediately. And I began to understand why it was so hard for me to believe that God was really there, really loved me or even cared: Feeling love for God (who is described as "Love" in the bible) should be similar to feeling love for your child. It's immediate, it's unquestionable, and it's truly beyond understanding and reason. Feeling love for God, if he exists, shouldn't have to be a constant battle.

High gas prices finally changing North American vehicle attitudes
by Simon inwhen i read that the ford f-150 is the best selling vehicle in america i wrongly assumed that it was just the best selling truck.
but no, it has been the best selling vehicle for the last 17 years!
if that is the best selling you can be sure that there are plenty of similar models from different manufacturers being bought as well.. they are huge, fuel-inefficient things and i seriously doubt that even 90% of the people who buy them really need them.

I think that the future of solar energy is very exciting. Scientists are in the process of creating a new generation of solar cells using nano-technology. Today's solar cells are about 10%-15% efficient, meaning that they can use 10%-15% of the energy the absorb. The new nano-cells will be up to 50% efficient, which is a 300%-500% increase in efficiency over what we have today.
More efficient solar panels can be incorporated in roof shingles to provide power to households, in auto surfaces to power vehicles, in fact the possibilities are endless. And they will make solar energy an option in less-than-perfect conditions as well. Today, it's not considered cost efficient to use solar energy somewhere the sun isn't shining the majority of the time.
It's time to get inventive! We've got a world full of brilliant people with great ideas, who unfortunately have been squelched by the oil industry for decades. We need to make sure the plausable ideas get funding, and plenty of it, so we can end our dependancy on oil.

Current elder explains the college situation to me
by changeling inwhile he says he has not seen a letter ,he tells me that at the last visit the co told his body of elders pretty much what is being said here on jwd.. he gave some examples: .
1- if a young ms/pioneer, attends college and lives at home, would he and his elder dad be deleted?
the young man is "spiritually focused".. 2- an elder's daughter attends college in the hopes of having a good job in the future and dad promotes this course of action.

the elders are being told to go back to their congregations and to get them ready for the Great Tribulation.
Did he elaborate on how, exactly, they are supposed to do that? Dig a bomb shelter? Stockpile food? Go out in service more, perhaps? Not to miss any meetings?

by Hiddenwindow infor those of you with such experience, how difficult was your marital life after you left the wt?

When I left about 4 years ago, we were the Perfect JW Family. I ruined all that, and my husband was very angry. It almost ended our marriage.
Things are much better now, and both of my kids are out of the JWs and on their way to college (YAY!!) My husband has mellowed a lot. He's stopped expecting me to come back, he's supporting the kids in college, he's respecting their decision to not be JWs, and this past Memorial, he asked us all politely if we would attend. So we all did. It made him happy, and was a small price to pay to keep the peace.
I do still hope that one day, he'll come out too. He's really not a spiritual person, he's in for the social aspect mostly, I think. We were both raised JWs and have no 'worldly' friends at all. Cutting off contact with friends you've had your entire life is a big step to take.
If it wasn't for JWD and some of the friends I've made here, I think I'd have lost my mind long ago. What I miss most in my marriage now is the fact that I can't talk to my husband about any of the things that have been foremost in my thoughts. The bible, God, religion, beliefs, evidence for/against evolution, etc, etc.... all that is off limits. Since leaving the JWs I've spent hours and hours researching all kinds of things, and can't share any of it with my husband. My computer is password protected, and my "apostate" books are hidden. Not fun feeling like a criminal in your own home.
My husband is a great person in so many ways, but having him in the JWs when I'm out alienates us from each other, and it's both sad and lonely.
My heart goes out to anyone going through this.

Just about had it with Microsoft... thinking about converting to Apple!!!
by Elsewhere in[begin rant].
i'm your classic die hard microsoft guy.
i have never owned an apple product in my life.

GoingGoingGone
My son is leaving for college soon and I've promised him my laptop, which means that I was in the market for a new one. I've never touched an Apple product (well, except for my iPod), and after weeks of Google-ing "PC vs. Mac", I decided to go for the Mac.
I'm still learning to use it, but so far, so good.
One thing I was certian of was that I did NOT want MS Vista!! Anyone I know with Vista has had nothing but grief. I'm sure Vista is just lovely if it works properly, but that's a big if....

an armored life
by chickpea inan amazing concept!!!.
all mothers are daughters.
i heard that on public radio .
-
GoingGoingGone
i learned from her
that an armored life
is not a protection
it is a prison
and she died
holding the key
in her handWow... I love this part. It is so true. And I think that many of us live an armored life for any number of reasons. Afraid to let others in, because we are afraid of being hurt, again. But holding people at arms length is no way to live.
Thanks for posting this!

Virtually all JWs have been taking blood fractions and don't know it!
by M.J. ina notable member of this forum tipped me off to this fact, and i recently checked up on it.. check out the cdc's ingredient list for vaccines:.
http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/b/excipient-table-2.pdf.
any vaccine you see with the ingredients "bovine albumin", "bovine serum", "human serum albumin", are made from blood!.
-
GoingGoingGone
I believe that albumin is on the JW list of approved fractions, so vaccines containing those ingredients would be a "conscience matter".
A vaccine that is given because of possible exposure to a disease differs from the same vaccine given as a routine booster. For example, tetnus shots are recommended every 7 years or so. If you go to the doctor and get your tetnus shot every 7 years, it will contain a tiny amount of the tetnus germ, which your body will then develop an immunity to, and thus you are protected. But if you step on a rusty nail, the tetnus shot you get will contain the immunoglobins already - taken from someone else's blood - because you need them immediately.
I know someone who refused to let her son get a meningitis vaccine when an outbreak occured in his school, because one of the ingredients came from blood. Thank goodness he didn't get sick. I don't know how she could have lived with herself if he had.
