The person I studied with is now in prison. He was convicted of child sexual assault, including four counts of rape, in March this year, and sentenced to seven and a half years imprisonment. I am unsure as to whether he is still a jw or not, maybe he has studies in jail, I neither know nor care really.

The person who brought you into the "lie"
by pratt1 in.
just wondering, is the person who studied with you still an active dub?.
in a poll with a few of my friends, all who studied with either us or our parents are now not considered dubs.

I was a bit low when the jws came a - knocking, and I was attracted by the promise of the new system, it just had to be better than the life I had then. I went to a meeting, got the usual love bombing, started a study, and went on from there. I didn't really believe in God until then, and I don't now, but what they taught seemed to make so much sense at the time, and I fell for it totally. I really believed it all, and changed my lifestyle completely. I quit smoking, hardly drank and generally tried to live as a good jw should, so I suppose there were benefits to being in, although towards the end of my jw life I did start to have the odd cigarette again and go out drinking more. I smoke now, a little more than occasionally. I did try to quit a short time ago, but didn't make it, not enough willpower I guess.

All the things I disagree with
by PoppyR in.
last night i sat down and wrote a list of all the things i have disagreed with ..sometimes silently sometimes loudly over the years, some of these are.. yoga, mediation, hypnosis (all of which i have done, enjoyed and benefited from and none of which have cleared my mind) oral sex (no comment .
on another note.. got stopped by a mormon in the town today, he asked me if i was religious.. i said "i used to be a jw".. and as i walked away i almost hopped skipped and jumped, first time i've said it out loud, and it felt good.. poppy xx

I haven't really told my story on here, not got around to it yet, but here goes.....
I wasn't raised as a jw, I came in at the age of 40 in 1991. I had been divorced a short time before that, and was somewhat vulnerable. I was baptised in 1992, and for 5 years was a model jw, regular pioneer, ministerial servant. Then I upset the po by not cooperating with something he wanted me to do, and it was downhill from then on. I still believed it all, but eventually stopped going to meetings in 1999 after two years of constant harassment by the elders, and haven't been back since. I kept quiet for a few years, but decided to da this year and joined the forum about the same time. I am actively anti - jw now, shunned by the majority of my former friends of course.

It is sometimes depressing, but its also inspiring to read of so many who have rebuilt their lives after leaving the org.
I personally don't find it as depressing as most of my time in the jws was though.

Do you have any plans for later? Are you at the meeting tomorrow? I am da'd, and haven't been for years, so a meeting is definitely not in my plans. I do have a few things to do though.

I will probably be up another hour or so on the board. We have a strange custom here, we turn the clocks back one hour tonight, so everyone gets an hour extra in bed tomorrow. I don't know where that originated, but I like it, although next March they go forward an hour, thats not so good, an hour less in bed.
