Gender confused Hillary_step:
My, my you are a sensitive Willy
Yes I am. Its of my greatest qualities. Girls don't like it to be too insensitive or they spend far too much time on their knees. To the subject at hand.
No, I am afraid that the passage above can also be relagated to the ranks of a diatribe that has little to do with the issues that I raised in the post.
What does an alchoholic cutter have to do with a tattooed, pierced and mutilated body? One is as a result of an illness, the other the result of unencumbered choice, a point that you then latterly seem to recognize. They have nothing in common, especially as you seem to indicate that the "cutters" scars are part of her unfortunate history.
Everyone's scars whether they wear them in or out or with color or fleshed holes are a part of their history. The connection between the two is that there is something on the inside that has to get out, that has to be expressed. That is the human connection between the two. As far as illness goes, what isn't an illness viewed through another person's eyes? You paint with such a specific, threatened and elitist brush that everyone is missing the point of your painting. Or perhaps we are getting it loud and clear.
1) Tattoos, piercings, bodily mutliations have become the fashion the past fifteen years or so. Those who have taken on this decoration are fashion victims. The difference between clothing, household and other fashions is that bodily decorations are generally irreversible. You have your fashion fad stamped on you for the rest of your life, with all that this entails.
Not your choice. Not your judgement to make. A victim is an unfortunate person who suffers from some adverse circumstance. If that is how you are coloring Richie then damn color yourself with that as well. The choice to confront the after effects of our circumstances in a manner that is personal is what defines us not the manner in which we do it. The manner is subject to debate but really the only opinion that matters in the debate is our own. What is your aim here? To protect Richie or to condemn him? To argue because its fun? I don't know Richie as well as I want to but what I do know is that while modes of expression can be fads their permenance or lack there of takes nothing away from the needs that spawned them. It is down to the individual.
2) The claims that tatoos, piercings and bodily mutliations are an appeal to individuality flies in the face of fact. Previous to the past decade or so, a minority of people were tattooed. Then when the fashion fad hit, millions of people followed like sheep. How can one defend this as an appeal to individuality?
Because choice is individual. Each piece of art displayed is individual whether that piece is on a wall or on skin.
Letting "Barney" loose on a thread without teaching his the basics of debate is a dangerous exercise
Wow. You got me. Point taken. Perhaps though before you correct my skills at debate you may perhaps correct your own rafter of grammar.
I can't make it any simpler for you. I'd offer to draw you a picture but I'd be wasting my time. Clearly you just want to argue over semantics and that is not worth my effort.

the nature of freedom of expression is down to the individual. as long as your freedoms don't encroach on mine? party on. whatever Richie wants to do with his body is Richie's goddamned business. how quick people are to slap him on the back as you say and congratulate him when he makes stands for his religious freedom, sends pictures of flipping off in the mirror at the kingdom hall or happens to be with a stunning young woman. all of those are parts of his freedom. who are you to say that his reasons have to do with attention seeking or cuz his mommy didn't hug him enough. are you personal in real life friends with Richie? i doubt it. so i doubt very seriously that your judgements of him can hold any water. am i going to clip my tongue? nah. but if Richie wants to and he enjoys it, good on him.
This is just a nonesensical tirade that has little to do with the issue at hand
nonesensical? oh Nonsensical. Got it. I'll break it down Barney style for you (Barney is a big purple dinosaur that teaches rudimentary things to small children much as I'm about to do with you.)
Lets get the major things out of the way. While being confused with BigWilly is a compliment it bears no credibility to the argument to insult either of us. And with that said I apologize for my initial anger in response to your post. You are correct in saying that it has no bearing in a civil conversation of dissimilar views.
Your opinion in agreement with another's actions or not has no real bearing on the outcome of those actions unless they encroach on your own freedoms. Dissimilar views are truly the only way we learn. You never know just how you look through other peoples eyes. The reality though is that nothing you say is going to change what Richie does. He chose to leave his childhood religion at the protest of his parents and all that he knew. That was his choice. To those around him it was a poor one. But it was his choice. I understand that your viewpoint is from the perspective of someone older than him and perhaps wiser in some arenas. That changes not the fact that our lives are our own. Your opinion is yours to keep and his actions are his to keep. Such actions are not for all much as most personal decisions aren't. I choose to keep my tattoo's hidden. Richie doesn't. That is his choice. What I have learned about people in the past year is that it isn't anyone's place to change them or even attempt to. We can encourage, give our viewpoint and offer advice when asked. I do not recall his soliciting opinions of his actions or choices.
I have a friend who is an alcoholic cutter. I love her. I'm not going to change the fact that she drinks. I don't condone it and when asked I have told her what I think. When she's around me she respects my opinions by not over drinking. When together I ask about her scars. They mark points in her life, like my tattoo's, like Richies body modifications. And I love her for who she is and not who I want her to be. Because behind all of her reasonings for what she does she is at basest level my friend, human and a genuinely good person. Humans cope with their pains, their struggles, their ideas in many different ways. Who are we to impose our consciences on them?
If Richie came to my door to pick up my daughter for a date I'd be taken aback by his appearance but that would all disappear when he smiled, extended his hand and began speaking. The best girlfriend I have ever had was not the best looking one. And the best looking girlfriend I ever had was the worst one. It is down to the individual and what they possess in their souls not what is grafted onto their flesh that matters.
"Sensical" enough for you?

as to being stuck in a year i'm sure that some of your fashions and home decorations reflect the era in which you grew up as well. i'd tell you what i really thought but i don't want to break posting guideline 1.
nuff said. go head Richie.

Piercing pain and tat pain are completely different experiences. I prefer tattoo pain, but still get a jones for piercing pain as well. Piercings (also depending on location) are a shorter, more intense pain whereas the tat pain is less painful but drawn out for a longer period of time. Both are addicting as hell!
yeah. i like slow torture over a long period of time. blowing the load all quick like? pass.
my friend has a prince albert. mother of god. one time we were working (servers) and he got it caught on something in his pants. (don't ask me. i didn't look or want to look (well, maybe a lil)) i watched him limp around for a while. I say F that. my weiner is sensitive enough as it is. the temperature drops and we know it. the wind blows and he says, "HUH?" as if someone called him. i seriously don't need anything heightening his ESP. lil bastard
besides with what i do and want to do the giant dreadlocked black man does not need to get trumped with visibly tatted, pierced giant dreadlocked black man.

Oh dear! Even as I was reading the title of this thread, I could feel the needle on my ass again. LIke a hot iron brand.
I agree w/ the pain being addictive, but that was a little much. I'm more into the pain from piercings. Richie, I want my tragus and rook pierced!!!
What did you get tatted?
The pain from piercings? F that. I got my nose pierced and would take all 8.5 hours of my tatting over that second of pain. it was horrible. call me bitch made if you want to. it hurt. i teared involuntarily. worst part was that i had to take it out about 3 weeks later because i got a cold.

Are there certain places that are more painful?
my first tat, the one in the middle was directly on my spine for a lot of it. Not so bad, although I could feel the vibrations in my teeth. the artist wasn't very heavy handed. the one on the right hurt like a mofo. on the scapula was freaking horrible. to illustrate the one in the center took 6 hours, straight through. the one on the side took 2.5 with like 3 breaks. by the end i was totally done. all of my adrenaline was spent and i went to my girlfriends house and took a nap. so yeah, some places are way more sensitive.
