This MAY cut down on the amount of work the elders and in particular the Service Committee does. Especially in a large congo such as my former one many hours were spent assigning the publishers to groups. Further renters in my area move a lot and our congo was very transient. Therefore it was a full time job tracking constant changes in assignments. Admittedly this is not true organization wide. But for elder bodies like my former one, this may be a relief provided that the GB does not replace the old arrangement with something just as complicated. The letter does mention keeping service in smaller groups.

Actually this "change" shows up so many of the problems with that organization. They still have a book study, still want people to study for one, and still expect an elder to conduct one. While I admit that the extra night at home is nice and they may have cut down on BSOs (we haven't seen the correspondence to the bodies yet), they are so stuck up on their "cooking" of spiritual "food" they can't for a moment see that the real benefit would have been to scrap the whole meeting entirely.
If there is anything that this does say it is something that most JWs will probably miss entirely. THIS IS A CLEAR SIGN THAT THEY DON'T EXPECT THE END TO SHOW UP ANYTIME SOON! I say this because the whole rationale for book studies was in large part future persecution, and the need to have small clandestine meetings. The GB may not be feeling that pressure anymore in the free world.
I also wonder how all of the COs who advised my elder body to push the book study arrangement will feel now. The downturn in the congregation was always attributed to a lack of following the book study arrangement. That was one reason for the change not so many years ago from Book Study Conductor to Book Study Overseer. In a place like here in NYC it was very hard to have service groups at book studies. We struggled hard to make this work. Now the "best" arrangement for shepherding is now gone. What does that say? Was it ever good to begin with? Or is a matter of a group of inconsiderate men asking people to do too much?

This film depicts the story of a Witness girl who steps outside of her religious community by falling in love with a "worldly" young man. She subsequently commits fornication and viewers will see the upheaval and toll her actions take on her life and that of her JW family when she is disfellowshipped. I haven't seen it yet so I can't give it a personal reccommendation but I plan to go. So if someone in NY/NJ (or anywhere else if nearby) wants to meetup with me we might be able to arrange that as well. Isaac http://isaaccarmignani.blogspot.com/

Stay or leave your spouse after leaving JWs - Do you have regrets?
by Awakened at Gilead ini am in a situation that many of you have faced... whether to stay with my spouse or not after having learned the falsehood of the org.. my wife is diehard witness who gets upset whenever i talk about the org negatively.
she is not happy that i am on jwd... in fact the other day she picked up the keyboard and wanted to throw it accros the room or bash me with it when she saw i was on jwd... she is also very upset about me making friends with "apostates" and worldly people, and told me never to bring them to our home!
this concerns me, since i am not going to have any friends in the org, and i need at least a few friendships...she doesn't want me to talk to the friends in the cong about my decision so that i don't share my doubts.

"2 completely and utterly different personalities", Yup that's true. Steve Hassan talks about that in Combating Mind Control. BTW-Thats a good read when you have the time.

Reassignment of Bethelites having negative impact on NYC congregations
by truthseeker ini was talking to a friend of mine recently who had some knowledge of the current situation with bethelites being let go.. he said that this is having a negative impact on some congregations in new york city because these bethelites are also serving as elders in their congregations.. when a bethel elder is reassigned, the congregation loses out on the leadership, and in some cases there are not enough brothers taking the lead to keep the congregation running.. as a consequence of this, a few congregations have been disbanded and merged with other nearby congregations.. has anyone heard anything similar to this?.

Being a Jehovah's Witness Can Make You Fat
by WTWizard inas there has been some talk lately of a crackdown on obesity (in the form of the great boasting session), it might be time for a thread about how being one of jehovah's witlesses can lend one to becoming fat.. first, my personal situation.
when i was in college, i gained the 4x15 pounds that were supposed to be gained in college, and it was only my sophomore semester.
it was legitimately my fault.

The same reasons WTWizard had were the reason for my weight gain. I lost fortyfive pounds once I quit!

Last night we met at Dave & Busters in Times Square. I hadn't been around any ex-JWs save for this board for almost a year. It was very refreshing to be with people who I share a common experience with. I only knew one other person there. Yet I felt like I was among old friends in literally minutes. Further I brought my girlfriend along who has never been a JW. I was a little apprehensive about doing this. I have discussed the JWs with her extensively though and she benefited so much from the event and was able to relate. One non-JW spouse was also there which made my girl feel at ease. So for those of you trying to cope with exiting this cultish group, meetups like this can be helpful. For those of you near NYC who want to meet us, check us out at http://exjw.meetup.com/333/boards/
