she went on to describe how the weekly watchtower study taught her how to truly study, by underlining the most important part of the paragraph.
funny, i do not recall that as the primary method of study for the rest of the world - most of the textbooks i have read did not have a numbered set of questions at the end of each paragraph.

I would agree, equal parts boring and frustrating. It is literally impossible to debate evolution with a creationist because they are vainly attempting to use logical arguments to defend a position that is unfalsifiable. No amount of evidence at the phylogenetic, molecular, genetic, anatomical, behavioural, etc. in clear support of evolution can convince a creationist otherwise. WHen you get down to it, most creationist defenders know virtually nothing about basic biology, anatomy, molecular genetics, etc. so you find yourself presenting incomprehensible evidence to somebody who has long ago made up their minds.
The most difficult thing to convey to a creationist is the reality that "the theory of evolution" no longer exists....it has moved beyond the theoretical realm many many years ago and is now a solid foundation of FACTS based on concrete, hard data.
THis so-called "JW SCHOLAR" (indeed the ultimate oxymoron) sounds like any other north american 'intelligent design' wind-bag.

by Terry inthe oldest manuscripts are not considered the most reliable.. there are no "autograph" texts.
none.. there are no "original" manuscripts.. no two manuscripts agree.. the bible as we know it only came together in the form it now holds because certain men decided it should do so.. neither jesus nor his apostles or disciples carried bibles.. the apostle paul didn't carry a bible and none of his letters were in any of the scrolls considered holy scripture at the time he was preaching and forming christian theology as it is now understood to be.. largely, what the bible is today, is the result of certain men with certain agendas who had the authority to make their project happen.
they also had the power to destroy writings which did not agree with their agenda.

Do JWs give you the creeps?
by sonnyboy ini'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but i've recently begun to get the willies when i'm around an active jehovah's witness.
this didn't happen until after i started posting here.. when i stop by my parents' house on a saturday morning and the witnoids show up, i get a sinking feeling in my stomach....a mix between sickness, fear, and anger.
i used to try and put on a happy face and be sociable when they came in, but now i just wave goodbye and as i'm walking out.

I agree, they dont give me the creeps simply because I used to be one of them, so I see them simply as confused human beings, nothing more nothing less.
Its the doctrines and the horrific results of those doctrines that give me the creeps...
but as for having once been one and having once actually believed those doctrines, I can only think of Nietzsche's immortal words: "And when you stare into the abyss...the abyss also stares back at you".......

Atheism DOES NOT require 'faith' in science....I personally know many atheists with no interest whatsoever in science or in empirical methods of deducing truth. They have simply abandoned the notion of a "god" on purely moral grounds....
Certainly, many atheists DO support empirical methods of reasoning and support scientific inquiry...the difference between the 'faith' of a religionist and the 'faith' of a scientist is that the scientist has PHYSICAL, DEMONSTRABLE, EVIDENCE of the proposed theory or hypothesis and approaches the experimental problem without a pre-conceived notion of what the result of the experiment will yield. This is first necessity of scientific inquiry...all testable theories and hypotheses MUST be falsifiable. Unfortunately, those who believe in god believe A PRIORI that god most certainly exists and NO AMOUNT of evidence to the contrary (and despite the complete lack of any physical evidence to support its existence) will falsify this a priori assumption.

To ensure you have a future....first destroy your past...that has been the JW modus operandi from day 1. The rank and file are so blissfully unaware (or willfully forgetful) of all the myriad
interpretations the WTS has proferred about this ridiculous prophecy over all these years that whenever some new interpretation of an old prophecy is proclaimed, the mentally regulated thought process of the dub automatically readjusts itself (delete old file=insert new file). I remember the mental gymnastics my parents went through trying to explain the fall of the Soviet empire (which for years and years had been the "king of the north").....I recall one dub once telling me that China was the new "king of the north" ??!!
New converts dont have a clue about the old prophecies since the witnesses RARELY discuss their own history...think of all the trolls on this site, such as "DefD" or grissom, who literally does not have a clue about the past "prophetic" shenanigans of the GB.....
