One of the young pioneer sisters in my former congregation was a good singer and she wanted to get professional singing lessons to polish her voice but her father (elder and PO) forbade it because it wouldn't be of any benefit to the preaching work.

Singing out. . .
by John Doe inwere there any folks in your congregation that had really big voices, no pitch, and a tone-deaf ear?
we had a whole family of them.
i recall one night the wife was particularly off key--even going on past when the music stopped, getting off on the wrong line, etc.

Here's one more that's easier to figure out, but hats off to whoever thought of it:
You are way too kind. The person who came up with this deserves no 'hats off'. It is not even remotely cryptic. They could at least have thrown in some multiplication or something.
n-20+29-19-19+15-n=26... fascinating
Here's one for you...
Think of the number 539
Add 17
Add 4
Add 27
If you didn't come up with 607, start again and repeat until you do.

Think of a number between 12 and 5
LOL I thought of 13. Likely for two reasons.1) The order of the numbers should have read 5 first and then 12.
2) On a right angled triangle with adjacent lengths 5 and 12, the hypotenuse is 13.
Since 12 minus 5 is 7, it's little wonder that people would think of it, and it also why the numbers are listed in the wrong order.

Most Hated "True Stories"
by Ingenuous ini was inspired by the "most hated analogies" thread.. a brother giving the public talk one sunday told the most ridiculous story.
i couldn't even swallow it when i was "in.".
i'll try not to laugh while i'm typing this.. once upon a time, in a land far, far away... someone planted a bomb in a kingdom hall.

The one about the the train drawbridge that the controller has to get in place so the train doesn't crash, but it means his son will get hit by the train. (They then apply it to God allowing his son to die to save mankind.)
COs and DOs particularly like to use this one. Sometimes they say it's a true story; others say they don't know if it's true or not. I hated it especially when they said it was a true story. For the record, it is not based on any specific actual event.
It first appeared as a short allegorical story in the Michigan Baptist Bulletin in the 60s, then was picked up by the Seventh Day Adventists in the 70s. Some point after that the Witnesses picked it up and ran with it.

Very good apologetics for honest seekers

here is some powerful ammunition to "demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of god"!

My singing got a lot of commendation at the hall (though I would have preferred something like Creed or Pearl Jam). Though it wasn't particularly hard to stand out from the crowd of the tone-deaf clammering of the rest of 'em. There were quite a few people who it was impossible to be near because you would spend the entire time either laughing or cringing at the terrible voices.

What's the JW view on food intake?
by sonnyboy in.
i've been thinking, if the jws won't allow smoking, excessive drinking, or the alteration of the outer body, do they also have rules about caloric, saturated fat, transfat, and sodium intake?
these things can be just as harmful to the body in the long run.

Stop picking on the poor resplendent cranes. Haven't they suffered enough.
Why do they need an "Awake writer in Spain" for an articled researched in South Korea?
