Who On This Site Would You Like To Meet?
by minimus inthere are a lot of interesting people that frequent this site.. sometimes, we get an idea of what the posters are really like in "real life".
and i'm sure i could be easily surprised by some that you think might be strong personalities because of their board presence, and in reality, they might be shy in a face to face setting.. i would enjoy meeting simon.
simon used to be terribly annoyed by my posting and now i think he's accepted with tolerance my being here.. farkel seems like a grouchy cantankerous fellow but i think he'd be very interesting company!.

Do Jehovah's Witnesses know what happened to them in 1954?
by Terry in1954: the year jehovah's witnesses stopped worshiping jesus christ.
watchtower charter: http://www.jehovah.net.au/books/1945_cha..._wtbts.pdf.
did you know that from 1879 until 1954 the writings of c.t.russell, j.f.rutherford, nathan knorr and the watchtower's own charter all agreed that jesus christ was worthy of worship?.

Great Post Terry. Your posts nearly always point out some new flaw in the Society's operating manual that I have never considered previously.

Jehovah's Snitches
by Gnosis indo members of a congregation usually snitch on each other for "sinful behaviour" a fellow member is caught doing ?.
like smoking for example.
how common is this snitching in the name of jehovah and is it encouraged by elders or in propaganda works ?.

To show you how well the JW system of snitching is set up consider one of my experiences.
In 1990, I was a customer service manager at a nationwide computer repair company. One of our big accounts called me and said they were upset with the Field Tech that was sent to their facility the day before. The caller said the tech did not appear "to know what the fuck he was doing."
The next day I mentioned this to my group of 18. I did not say the word fuck but I did spell it out.
Unbeknowst to me one of the ladies working in my dept was a Witness. She had been in my dept for 8 months and never mentioned that she was a fellow believer. I had an "Aid to Bible Understanding" on my desk as well as a few other things that identified me as a JW.
Evidently she went to her Kingdom Hall that evening (Tuesday) which was in Garland, TX and told the elders that I had stumbled her. They took my name and called Brooklyn who told them I went to a Kingdom Hall in Farmers Branch. They called the presiding overseer in my congregation who verified I was in his congregation.
When I got home from work on Thursday there were two elders outside of my house wiating for me. They asked if they could come in and talk to me about a matter. I said "yes" and invited them in.
We sat in the dining room and they asked they could open with prayer before proceeding. As one of the elders began praying he asked Jehovah to open my heart to the counsel I was about to receive. At that moment I did not hear anything else in the prayer as my mind began racing trying to figure out what had I done.
After the prayers conclusion they asked if anything unusual had happened recently. I told them that I was not aware of such. Then they dropped the bomb on me.
They said a sister in the Garland congregation who worked for me was stumbled because I spelled out a curse word in a meeting on Tuesday. My first response was "what sister?" I was not aware of any sister working for me.
Then when they further described how she felt, I finally was able to make the connection to whom they were talking about.
I then asked them to leave and if they wanted to, we could discuss it at the meeting that evening.
After they left I sat back and marveled how well this spy network functioned. I stumbled some unknown JW on Tuesday at my place of employment and on Thursday there are elders waiting for me when I get home.
This was one of the embers that set the fire leading to my exit.

Why did you become a Jehovah's Witness ?
by Gnosis inwhy did you become a jehovah's witness ?.
initially upon entering the religion what were the positive things you experienced ?.
how did that particular way of thinking both benefit and harm you ?.

I identify a lot with what Terry said above. I also did not ask enough questions nor did I really put a lot of research into what I was joining. In a nutshell, I met my now ex-wife at a New Years Eve party. She was a "back-slidden" JW as she was baptized but had not attending meetings in the last couple of years.
After we began dating, she slowly started attending meetings and I went along for the ride. Since I was raised as a generic, go to church on Xmas and Easter type, and she was getting more into her faith, I began attending meetings with her. As many can attest, you receive a lot of attention and they appear to have a lot of answers that seemingly make sense. One thing led to another and within 2 years I was married and a baptized Witness. It would take me 10 years to come back to my senses.

Worldwide Church of God collapse
by cog_survivor inon my introduction post a few people expressed interest in how the worldwide church of god (wwcg) imploded.
i think maybe in hopes something similar will happen with the jws.
i think the jws will also eventually experience a meltdown but probably not in the same way since the power structure was a bit different.

Terry/Jamie - It is funny finding out how many others were also told that H.W. was the evil slave. It's amazing how much JW thought was based on rumor since they were always giving talks and writing articles about the evils of gossip.
Didn't the WWCG also think there was something was significant about 1975?

I was particularly amused at the lady who not only was not familiar with the character, but actually looked forward to seeing him on the screen. I would love to see her face when the time comes and she sees him in the Society's video.

Here are the replies I got yesterday while wearing my Sparlock shirt to work.
One male JW I work with would just stare at it when I went by, but never commented on it.
A second male JW told me "Hey, that guy on your shirt is in one of our videos. I thought it was made up but I guess I was wrong." I asked him "What does he do in your videos?". He replied "Nothing. He is just a toy that a kid is playing with." He never mentioned that ol' Sparlock was portrayed as a tool of Satan.
And finally, a JW female seemed to be oblivious to who Sparlock was. She asked me "Is that like a Saturday morning cartoon or a series? It looks cool and I like cartoons."
Who knows, maybe he'll get his own movie one day.

Great post Cog. It was not too long at all. I look forward to hearing more about this JW like church. I remember a Witness who saw me with a Plain Truth magazine in the early 1980's commented that it was written by "the evil slave." It seems that a rumor was being passed around the Witness circles that H.W. Armstrong used to be a JW or International Bible Student and split after Russel passed. I believe Mr. Armstrong even had a small article in his magazine stating that he was never part of the Society.
