It also goes to show how they suck the enjoyment out of everything. Good grief, JW kids have naff all to enjoy anyway...to deprive Caleb (JW kids) of the little pleasures of childhood is just evil and pointless.

''draws a clear picture of what jw's are about and will affect outsiders perceptions".
I often think something will have to 'give'. Will outsiders perceive JWs as a harmful Cult? Are the WT panicking (judging by the crap they are now churning out, they appear to be losing any 'direction'). As other posters have pointed out, d'fing is a last hold, and with young children being born into an internet based World, the WT needs to instil guilt at an early age by planting fear. It's mental abuse. They are deliberately targetting their future victims, because without them I believe this 'religion' would collapse on itself. The WT has thought ahead trying to secure its own future.

If you never have used the internet, would you have returned to the borg or stay in the organization?
by Iamallcool inif i have never used the internet, i would probably return to the borg by now.

I went on the Net, found many more people had seen through the 1914 tosh, and then began to discover the rest.
How do the WT (and JWs) regard 1914 now..? Is it phased/phasing out..? I can't see as it serves any real purpose anymore. What is tragic is the amount of lives/livelihoods lost by putting their trust in this lie.

How did you long-timers do it before the internet / Ray Franz books / abundant information?
by irondork inwith all the tools and information at the disposal of newly awakened ones, it's still no easy task coming to terms with the magnitude of it all.
it still takes a lot of gut-wrenching time and effort to get to the point where you are sure you made the right decision to leave.. .
how did you long-timers (old-timers, respectfully) manage it without crisis of conscience, christian freedom, jwn, jwfacts, freeminds, access to thousands of fellow survivors with stories just like yours?.

Alarm bells started ringing for me when it was announced from the platform that we were to hand in any books written by Russell or Rutherford to be destroyed on a bonfire as the teachings were out of date and therefore misleading and could lead to stumble people
Oh yes, if Russell was resurrected tomorrow he wouldn't be able to join the 'religion' he created.

Nope. I left before the internet. However, I still felt guilt. Now I don't because of the internet. Of information I accidentally stumbled upon whilst searching for something entirely unrelated (doesn't God move in mysterious ways? lol). I was gobsmacked when I read about the WT's association with the UN (selling their collective soul for a library card, lol). Now I'm totally guilt free. Edited to add - The internet just reinforced why I left.

Morning Phizzy
In the end though, the final nail in the coffin was realising that 1914 was simply not in the Bible, and no Elder being prepared to come and defend the doctrine to me.
Blimey, the amount of times I've asked to have that explained to me. JWs actually believe they KNOW the maths but have forgotten it, lol. ''I'll get back to you'' (they never do). You would think that as it was/is a MAJOR doctrine they'd know it inside out.

My email to my mother - sorry a bit long
by darthweef inhello - i am new here .. just joined a couple of days ago, and have enjoyed the bit of lurking that i have done.
a breif history, i was raised as a jw, was active until i was 36, and was a regular pioneer for 7 years and a ministerial servant for 5 years, and was one when i left.
my reasons for leaving are not important at this point, but i have spent the last year or so researching the flood and more extensively the theory of evolution.. i have finally decided to broach the topic with my mother since after all this time, the last of my jw friends and my brother and sister have all decided that they should shun me now, and i want to make a last ditch effort to convey to my mother that i didn't leave the organization so i could do lines of coke off a cheap hooker, but because i actually believe that this is not the truth.. i'd love some feedback on the email and what you think the possibility of it actually breaking through the "permafrost" created by the society.

What Nugget said. It never fails to amaze me how JWs totally trust the WT's 'research' yet easily dismiss the research of professionals. I'd be interested to read your Mum's response (if you get one). Sadly 'evolution' is something too easily dismissed by JWs as it's 'against God'. Once they have to 'think' about evolution, then too many other things would need to be addressed (eg., timelines) Welcome darthweef

You know what maths is..? To reach an answer, we also have to show how we reach that answer.

How Will The Watchtower Handle Disclosure?
by metatron infor me, the disclosure of ufo's as being real is just matter of time.
it's not a matter of any mayan calendar or galactic alignment.
it's simply the eventual outcome of increasing and increasingly bold ufo observations.

587 BC for Total Dunderheads
by Farkel inif you're a dunderhead on neo-babylonian history (like me) you've probably remained totally clueless whenever the subject of the chronology leading to back 607 b.c.
since i had nothing better to do today, i decided to finally take the time it takes to understand why dub chronology on that date is wrong.
this piece of information alone should give you a clue about how bored i am!.

I never get bored of reading these. It's quite astounding how the R&F just believe incorrect maths, lol..
