I don't think anybody in the world could come to the same conclusions as jw's by reading the Bible itself without jw litter-ature.
I would find it very hard to believe that anybody ever became a jw by reading a Bible.
anyone reading [or did read] the bible without someone else telling you what it meant?.
would you be leaning towards the jws or baptists or lutherans or what?.
just asking.

years ago, when i was still a publisher, i had a very interesting conversation with a lady in the field service.
we were talking about punishment for sin and so on.
she believed in hellfire.
" I remember telling her that "the wages of sin is death." Therefore,
when one dies, he pays for all his sins and hence can recieve a
ressurection."---- if that is the case, then jw's have no need whatsoever for Jesus. It explains much.
with thanksgiving around the corner, i thought it would be interesting to hear how you, your family or other jw's you knew handled/celebrated thanksgiving.
it seems to me that most jw's view it as harmless and unofficially celebrate it the day before or the day after the actual holiday.
growing up, my mother would host a dinner the day after thanksgiving and used the excuse " well the traditional food for the dinner is discounted at this time, might as well have a dinner".
I have heard of jw's who refuse to wear red the entire month of Dec just in case someone might think they were celebrating Christmas, why then is it ok to eat a turkey at the end of Nov? News flash to jw's- if you make an entire Thanksgiving meal and eat it any time around Thanksgiving the rest of us think you are in fact celebrating Thanksgiving. Just because it is the day before or after is ridiculous. Many non jw families have to adjust the date as well to accommodate relatives schedules.
I think there was a story here about someone who had just joined the jw's and told their family they could not go to family Thanksgiving (broke grandma's heart) instead the elder invited the newbie to his house on that day. What did this newbie jw find there? Turkey dinner with all the fixings with the elder's friends and family. Instead of having the same meal with their own family they went and had the exact same holiday with an arrogant elder and his family and friends! But it wasn't really Thanksgiving was it?
what is the correct address of bethel warwick.
is this the house no.
1 of gods kingdom drive?
Why is it so far out in the boonies? Are they building a compound similar to the Scientologists? nobody gets in or out without their knowledge?
i last spoke to my father in march 1990. we finished a "quick build" kingdom hall and i had a 17 year old spiritual awakening and decided to drop high school to pioneer full time.
(yes i was a dumb ass) he was not happy since my parents were divorced he was catholic.
we had a arguement and he said stay in school get a degree...and dont come back if your a witness!!
I'm sorry for your loss, wishing you peace.
i always have a nice bowl of candy ready for trick or treat, we don't get many so you usually have a short conversation with the parents.
so a mom & 3 kids come and the two boys were dressed in suit and ties!
i am laughing because my first thought was they were dressed as jw's!
Trick or treat is usually on the weekend closest to the actual date. Most people (and bars) had their parties this past weekend. Our town also does a big Halloween parade and the kids can take part if they want and afterwards they trick or treat at the local business establishments and surrounding neighborhoods or go to their own subdivision, etc.. I'm in the mid-west.

Instead of asking if they were dressed up as cult members I ask, "g-men?" Mom says she wasn't sure, maybe men in black. I giggled all the way back to the living room handing my jw some more Halloween candy.
This damn cult invades my thoughts far too often.
popping in to say hi.... been away from the forum for a long time.... had some serious health issues starting at the beginning of this year.
on the mend now, and getting back into the swing of things.... great to be alive!.
Glad you are on the mend! wishing you continued good health.
http://www.msn.com/en-us/lifestyle/smart-living/22-fascinating-maps-that-show-how-americans-speak-english-differently-across-the-us/ss-bbwqtug?li=bbnb7kz&ocid=iehp .
everyone knows americans don't agree on pronunciations.. that's great, because regional accents and dialects are a major part of why american english is so interesting.. josh katz, a former ph.d. student of statistics at north carolina state university, published a group of awesome visualizations of professor bert vaux and scott golder's linguistic survey, which looked at differences in american dialects (via detsl on /r/linguistics).. his results were first published on the abstract, the nc state university research blog.
the complete set of katz's maps, updated with the results from more than 350,000 new survey responses, are compiled in the new book "speaking american," publishing october 25 from houghton mifflin harcourt.. katz gave business insider permission to publish some of the coolest maps from his collection..
If you were ever a waitress you have come across the soda dilemma on occasion. Guy asks for booze of choice and soda, soda? what kind? in my neck of the woods that could mean Coke, Sprite, etc... his booze of choice could have gone with any soda choices, he looked at me like I was a moron, naturally he meant seltzer. Growing up we had pop.
'Doggy bags' have also gone out of fashion, they are now boxes. We were in a different state a number of years back and I asked for a doggy bag and the server had no clue at all as to what my request might be.
i need wt quotes where wt goes fully out and: .
demonizes the internet, .
witnesses preaching on the internet.
I remember when my jw thought the internet should be used with caution even though he used it daily. It was never to be used for looking up 'spiritual' things! Now he is on his damn devices 24/7 sometimes. Naturally he got a tablet when it was suggested to be used in fs, blah.....
