Jehovah's Witnesses order cases of abuse of
children internally
The cult avoids direct police intervention
despite worldwide scandals and the demands of victims
Jehovah's Witnesses urge the resolving of child abuse cases internally. The cult leadership avoids direct police intervention despite scandals that have sprung up in congregations around the world. A new revision of the child protection policy urges the elderly to inform, and gives them the ultimate responsibility of informing law enforcement if they see it as necessary.
According to an internal
document accessible to Crónica Global, the leadership of the Witnesses in the
United Kingdom has reported a reform of child protection procedures.
This
text has been communicated to congregations in the United Kingdom and Ireland,
and will be effective in Spain in the near future
ELDERS REPORT ...
The updating incorporates some news. If any member of the congregation is aware of abusive behavior, they should inform the elders (pastors). These, in turn, will bring it to the attention of the legal department of the structure.
According to the new internal instruction, the communication must be made "regardless of the age of the victim or alleged perpetrator at the time of the attack, or of the one they have now, and whether or not the allegations are well founded."
... AND THE LEGAL SUMMIT
DECIDES
Once the situation is
transmitted, two things must happen, according to the dome of the Witnesses.
"An elder prepared from the legal department will provide a sense in which
to act and spiritual support to the congregation," added the document.
Afterwards, the management
will launch a Scriptural investigation of the case. The polls include
controversial parades or judicial committees of the congregation, in which
elders question the infant about the alleged abuse episode.
With the current reform, minors may declare
without their alleged assailant being present.
THE POLICE DEPEND
Although renewed
guidelines call for the protection of minors in congregations, updating them
remains timid as regards police intervention.
The dome of the Witnesses leaves to the discretion of the elders the complaint to the non-religious authorities "if the minor is at risk". Both parents of children allegedly assaulted as any member of the congregation are authorized by the cult to report.
At no point do the guidelines cite the
obligation to go to the security forces. Nor does it detail what will happen if
the Watchtower legal department demonstrates the abuse, what the outcome of the
domestic courts or investigations is, or whether its findings will be referred
to law enforcement.
SHORT
Updating the guidelines against child abuse within Jehovah's Witnesses is far from what the victims have requested.
The group has launched the support telephone 91.489.09.83 and has requested access to the secret archives of the cult at the national headquarters of Ajalvir (Madrid). Soon he prepares more actions

How true!
There's so much information in this video that we identified with as we raised our son to be a JW. Consequently, he remains a dedicated JW. It was mind-manipulation or persuasion and influence at its worst or at its best, whichever!

Thank for posting the date of the news report, darkspilver. I appreciate your scrutiny to make sure the information that I post is accurate, relevant and current. Nothing worse than old news! After the link was sent to me I looked around to find if the information was recent, but couldn't find anything. Please, if you have the time, darkspilver, maybe you could locate an update about this case. I'd sure like to know the outcome.
Thanks flipper for your post. Your words are a reminder of two of the Watchtower's worst child abuse policies - 1) when a molestation takes place, elders are to call the WT Legal Dept. first and not the police. (Perhaps in this case, the young victim's family member was not a JW and that's why the authorities were called, not the elders), and 2) the confidentiality policy which definitely can have dangerous consequences for other kids in the KH.

how do you distinguish between religious fervor and mental illness?.

It's not meant as insult to believers; the two states of mind can share many similar characteristics
Last year, a news column circulated the web, announcing the American Psychological Association had decided to classify strong religious beliefs as mental illness. According to the article, a five-year study by the APA concluded that devout belief in a deity could hinder “one’s ability to make conscientious decisions about common sense matters.” Refusals by Jehovah’s Witnesses to accept life-saving treatments, such as blood transfusions, were given as an example.
Of course, this turned out to be a fake news story. But it still drew legitimate media coverage and outrage from readers. Fact-checking websites like Snopes had to point out the column was satirical.
To many, this was a ridiculous stunt. But for me, a physician specializing in mental health, the satire hits home in many ways. My colleagues and I often care for patients suffering from hallucinations, prophesying, and claiming to speak with God, among other symptoms—in mental health care, it’s sometimes very difficult to tell apart religious belief from mental illness.
Part of this is because the classification of mental illness often relies on subjective criteria. We can’t diagnose many mental health conditions with brain scans or blood tests. Our conclusions frequently stem from the behaviors we see before us.
Take an example of a man who walks into an emergency department, mumbling incoherently. He says he’s hearing voices in his head, but insists there’s nothing wrong with him. He hasn’t used any drugs or alcohol. If he were to be evaluated by mental health professionals, there’s a good chance he might be diagnosed with a psychotic disorder like schizophrenia.
But what if that same man were deeply religious? What if his incomprehensible language was speaking in tongues? If he could hear Jesus speaking to him? He might also insist nothing were wrong with him. After all, he’s practicing his faith.

A poster on a FB page wrote two separate comments today regarding Daniel Arthington:
I was in ----------- Congregation with him for 10 years before he moved. He is a charmer with a sick inside hurtful personality. He caused so much trouble to so many lives. In the end he was caught out by his own arrogance. He is sly, manipulative, not a man to trust and has a nasty streak in him that I have seen. He also cheated on his wife way back in 2004 and the elders gave him a little slap on the wrists. He is NOT a good man. |
