  A Jehovah’s Witnesses elder in Australia was put behind bars last week for sexually abusing minors, according to The West Australian.

  Over seven years, David Frank Pople sexually assaulted two teenage boys he met through a congregation near Perth. One of his victims told elders about the abuse in 1997, but no one notified police until one of the victims filed a report in 2014. Pople pleaded guilty and was sentenced to three years in prison.

  The details of Pople’s story mirror those of other abuse cases involving Jehovah’s Witnesses around the world. Elders failed to report child sexual abuse to secular authorities. The perpetrator was kicked out of the organization, only to be reinstated later.

  Moreover, the story fits a pattern of Jehovah’s Witnesses leaders ejecting members who abuse children, not for the abuse, but for failing to show adequate repentance.

  Freddy Franz, One of the smartest men of his day????

  back in my teen years this story swept through jw land, that according to, the guinness book of records , freddy franz, was listed as one of the seven, most intelligent , men in the world.

  dose anyone else remember this?

  i remember trying to look it up, but never found anything in print, and ii point that out once or twice , and was told a co, had told about it, and he wouldn't lie!

  The Awake! editor back in 1992 told me that as far as he was concerned it appeared like the GB rewarded Freddie by making him president in 1977 two years after the 1975 fiasco which he was responsible for that cause 500,000 members to leave the JW organization.

  So it would appear that Freddie wasn't the only one insane at WT headquarters.

  it seems to me if we had better response by posters to the above thread which i would send trey a link to, we might see more articles.

  i do know that trey has another jw article in the pipeline, but the more the better.

  Yes, Freddie had a fabulous memory. When he was almost blind, I remember at a Gilead graduation, another of the GB walked him out on the stage to the microphone where he gave a long, long talk which contained many scriptures that he quoted from memory. We'd follow him along in the Bible and he never missed a word.

  I spoke to Freddie a number of times in the mid 1980's before he went completely blind. He would walk to the office building from where he lived holding on to the arm of a young Bethelite to guide him and keep him stable and from tripping, etc. When I'd walk by him, he could make out that I was female and would begin to talk to me. Even In his old age, he was humorous and liked to joke around. He especially liked to tease me, although almost blind. If he could see, he probably wouldn't have wanted to tease me. ;-)

  I never saw any genius in him, but in his old age I think he had lost the desire and probably the ability to discuss "the deeper things" of the Bible. Around 1990-91, when he was quite feeble and living on the Infirmary Floor in the Towers building where the medical staff could look after him, the Writing Dept. gave him a small tape-recording machine to keep him occupied and he'd record ideas for articles and talks. One of the staff told me nobody listened to his recordings, but erased the tape and gave it back to him. I felt sad for him back then.

  Back in 1960, Joe and I were talking to Freddie at pre-convention work in Miami. Even then he wouldn't talk about any serious subject. He was a short man who at that time wore very wide, loud, eye-catching ties and enjoyed laughing at himself and his outlandish taste.

  In 1966, in Mexico City at a convention, Freddie showed up on the platform wearing a very wide, black and silver sombrero just to get us all to laugh. We noticed during his convention talk, he never looked at any notes.

  I do know that Freddie was his own man who did his own thing. I remember being told that he had a close friend in California that he'd visit on vacation almost every year when he was able to. The interesting thing about the man who he'd visit, a former wrestler, was that he was disfellowshipped but that didn't seem to matter to Freddie.

  A few years ago, I was told by a reporter, who at one time worked for the Times magazine, an interesting story. This reporter interviewed Franz when he became president of the WTB&TS in 1977 which story did appear in the Times. He said to me that in all his years as a reporter interviewing "important" people, after spending one hour with Freddie, he came away with the impression that Fred Franz was "certifiable insane."

  ronald lawrence has been in the news before, though it was believed that the statute of limitations would keep him from being charged as a criminal.

  i stumbled across this the other day.

  trey bundy did a report on one of ronald's victims, but it looks as though more have stepped forward since.

  "Yes, I'm aware the victims numbered into the teens but documents were seemingly destroyed. All I have to go on is my father's word back then that the victims were plentiful.

  And none that we could find were within the statute of limitations. Ronnie has made attempts to be around small children near his home but authorities warned him and left it at that."

  There is no one in this world more desirous of seeing WT's accountability in this child abuse mess come to light through the courts and media than me as I do have a dog in this fight! But I've learned a long time ago that before I rush to judgment, I need all the facts, otherwise my credibility is at stake.   BBC Radio 4 reported on Sunday, February 14, 2016 that Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall elders in the UK were directed by the Watchtower Society’s headquarters to destroy certain documents that were of particular interest to the Goddard Inquiry investigating child abuse and reporting of criminal behavior.

  The British government hearings are comparable to the Australian Royal Commission hearings that took place in August, 2015.

  While the BBC’s report is correct that all Kingdom Halls were given direction about the destruction of certain internal documents, there is some debate and many unanswered questions as to whether this was a “change of policy” specifically intended by the Watchtower Society to prevent the Commission’s access. Watchtower branch officers in the UK claim that this was not the case – and there is some evidence to support their claim. On the other hand, the Watchtower’s critics claim that the instructions regarding document destruction were specifically designed to complicate and frustrate the Commission’s investigation.

  today, 11 february 2016, an administrative lawsuit by the prosecutor of belgorod province for finding the local religious organization of jehovah's witnesses in the city of belgorod to be extremist and liquidated was granted by decision of the belgorod provincial court.

  yesterday the provincial court issued a decision on the administrative lawsuit of the provincial prosecutor for liquidation of the local religious organizations of jehovah's witnesses in the city of stary oskol.. the above quote is from one of 5 articles at link.. the fourth article, doctors in court: "jehovah's witnesses died after refusing blood transfusions", gives a synopsis of the hearing in the belgorod provincial court on feb 8.. two doctors were summoned into court as witnesses in order to learn whether religious convictions have affected the state of health of jehovist patients and whether they could be the cause of the death of patients.

  On Thursday, 11 February, the provincial court issued a decision finding the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses of the city of Belgorod extremist and not in compliance with the requirements of the federal law "On freedom of conscience and religious associations." By the court's decision, it must be liquidated and removed from the Uniform State Register of Legal Entities. The prosecutor of Belgorod province filed a lawsuit in court in defense of the interests of the Russian federation.

  We recall that a day before this, a similar decision was issued with respect to the local religious organization of Jehovah's Witnesses of the city of Stary Oskol. The decisions for the cessation of activity of said organizations are to take effect immediately. Within one month they may be appealed in the judicial college for administrative affairs of the Supreme Court of the Russian federation.
