Those friends are going to discard you in a heartbeat. That means that they were never really friends.

So are my JW friends really my friends - or not?
by BonaFide ini am being investigated judicially, although weeks are going by without the elders saying anything to me about it.
i still comment and give my talks.. anyway, some of my friends are getting word about me being investigated, some in my family too.
a couple i used to preach with every week no longer call me and bug me to join them.

You have to decide for yourself whether they're your 'friends', but it's a moot question really. What is important is that most of them, out of their extreme love for you, are going to treat you terribly. This obviously tells you that they're a bit messed up. You have to go through the confusion of working out what to do with all this rejection you're going to get. It can make you angry at them, which turns out to be pointless. Try to turn it into pity instead. Then try to realise that not only do you not need whatever kind of friendship that is, you're better off without the manipulation.

Just watched thise documentary about Jose Mestre, a man from Lisbon, "my mother is a JW", who has grown to middle age with a slowly worsening facial tumour. The story follows him as he makes his decision to go ahead with surgery. He finally chooses a series of small operations that surgeons promise will be bloodless. I can't find any info re whether he is still alive; I hope so though, he was a funny guy; in the show he has the sense of humour of somebody who has lived through extreme adversity.
He seems to live with his sister, who apparently isn't a JW. He meets a man in London whose JW mum is no longer a JW because she permitted him to have blood during surgery for the same condition. Jose seems to shut down in that meeting, like a JW would who has just realised he is with an ex-JW of some kind.

That is awesome!
By the way AA, I wanted to thank you before the site gets shut down; you were one of the first people to make contact with me on JWD just after I signed up, and I really appreciate it.

I've been to a lot of funerals now, and I've found that non-JW funerals really do their best to evoke emotion: symbols, moving music, photos, stories. The idea is to laugh and cry as much as you can, because it's best to get the grieving started so that it will one day finish. JW funerals are quite cold; there is a long outline that elders are given and after being to a few JW funerals, reading the outline was just like being there. With only one exception, at each funeral there wouldn't have been more than three or four minutes talking about the person we're there to memorialise. The rest of the sermon is presented from the angle "Brother x believed y very deeply."

NICE one! You should have stayed for tea and scones; see if they could conduct a conversation with her while still pretending that you're not there. It would have been torture for everybody.

How do you reassure sincere JWs who miss you?
by compound complex intry to avoid truthful phrases like "freaky mind-control cult".
they don't like that sort of thing.. my main concern is the kids.
if i have to hurt people's feelings to protect my kids, then that's what i gotta do.. but i understand what you're saying.

When possible, letting them know, kindly and with respect, that we're really just fine; but that there are conversations we can't have. I don't have many opportunities to do so though.

Another push to make US use %@#* $1.00 coins
by Gregor inthe gov't has been trying to get us to use these clunkers for years.
i think this is the third try in the last 20 yrs.
this time they are so desperate they are putting out ps spots talking about how much this will save the gov't (as we all know the gov't is always looking for ways to save money) and that, of all things, it is a green thing to do.... most men carry their money in their pockets/wallet.

I was surprised when I was in the states and kept being given pennies and dollar notes. What was I supposed to do with the pennies? But that's not your topic. Your mint needs to stop printing dollar notes, they cost you too much. We had a lot of old-timers whining about the loss of dollar and two-dollar notes when we ousted them in the eighties. I have the smallest wallet in the world but I can still put a few coins in there.
