Examples of JW's taking one scripture and EXPLOITING it

jw's are expert at taking one passing thought in scripture and forming a whole belief system or control mechanism around it.

ex: matt.

24:45-47 faithful and discreet slave......one parable, illustration.....no other mention of it in scripture....but if you do a search of it on the cd-rom, it is one of the most talked about/written about subject in their history.

AlmostAthiest mention of sects reminds me of some great stuff I copied from another thread:

I believe One Faith means Christianity that transcends man-made religious fences, united in one Lord, one faith, one baptism - nothing denominational. This suggests Christians seeking to distance themselves from other Christian religions are guilty of "works of the flesh" and "will not inherit the kingdom of God". Let me make peace with those others who believe in Christ, whatever their man made religious persuasion.

i will try to make this quick...... .

i have been with this wonderfull woman in a "relationship" for almost one year now (ive known her for 3 years).

she is jw and obviously i'm not, our relationship has gone almost exactly like many of the ones discribed here, hiding from parents, familly, church, etc.

i just recently join this site because i was looking for a friendly place for witnesses to go and chat.it's ok!..but i seen a lot of witness bashing.there's another site i want to get into, that's also a site for the witnesses.but i don't know what po means.and that's the only way a true witness can get in.i think maybe there is where i want to be.because i don't need to be in a site for witnesses,where its suppose to be friendly.yet witness haters are coming in.i haven't heard any witness bashing anyone in this site..but yet its the other way around.

Hi,

I agree that there is always room for more kindness, I call it Christianity, and there are millions who practice that eg following the teachings and example of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ. eg displaying Christian love to their enemies (for some this may mean towards people of other religions) Most are perhaps not Jehovah's Witnesses.

I hope you find the right person for you soon, a believer, whatever that means to you, whether he is in the Watchtower Society or a Christian.

Hi smorgle, and a warm welcome.

I never been a jw but joined (the board - not the org) to get loved ones out. Was a catholic, then Adventist (ie Watchtower's older cousin) then lapsed sorta agnostic past 25 years. Now a cross between agnostic & christian. And some ex-JWs think they're confused!? The Christian bit is through studying Bible with blinkers off for first time in my life, in my effort to get people "out". Still working on it. I've met great people here!

P.S. If gadget reads this, thanks friend for the text & call at weekend, appreciated!

Anyone have 'new light' on US vs Russia?

hi--i was wondering if anyone knew what the watchtower says about the superpowers destroying babylon the great?

i have been out for many years, and i know they used to teach that russia and the us were going to have the great war and then destroy all religions except the witnesses.

any takers?

Who cares? Didn't Jesus die to save people who had never heard of Daniel, as well as those who didn't know, and what's more......

Forgive me, but I was brought up on this stuff - I know how exJWs feel!

Making contact with family

some of you may know that my parents and whole family do not have any contact with me, apart from my dad who has provided his mobile number for "family business/emergencies".

i never try to contact them anymore after a negative experience after being beaten up trying to break up a streetfight last november when i called my dad and he hung up as soon as he realised it was me crying on the other end.. .

anyway - i decided that just because they want to forget about me i don't have to be the same anymore and i wanted them to know how happy i was.

I'm so proud of you! I have to smile when I think of your family, reading about Jesus Christ, yet not seeing a daughter who can display His Spirit, so much more than they or anyone in their religion ever can. It must confuse them to hell, if they lapse into a moment of thought for just a few seconds, LOL.

i am going to the library in a day or two to pick up the book "crisis of conscience" they got in for me because i have read everyones opinions on the book....... i am not sure what to expect when i read it.......

Do you believe the JW doctrine can be harmonised with the New Testament?

Isn't the reason JWs have such an authoritarian approach because of the most serious doctrinal error?

To be read after the end of my previous post:

God's righteousness! Not ours, God's!

But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; (Romans 3:21-24, NASB)

The righteousness of God! How? Through faith in Jesus Christ. Why? It is a gift by God's grace! Good news, good news! The demand of God's law for perfect righteousness has been met in Jesus Christ, the Lord our Righteousness!

For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4, NASB)

What the Law could not do, God did! What we cannot do for ourselves, God has done for us. "The Lord our Righteousness." The Lord himself has undertaken to provide the qualifications necessary to meet His own just judgment.

For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. (Romans 10:4, NASB)

?Justification means more than mere pardon for sin; it means that the justified person is regarded as having kept all God's laws perfectly." (James Buchanan, Not Guilty, p.25)

The Lord our righteousness. Who is this Lord and what does it mean to say he is our righteousness? The Lord is clearly Jesus Christ. How does His righteousness become ours? By God's grace through faith.
