Jehovah's Witnesses and Born-Again Christians are too much alike its scary
by booker-t inever since i left the jw's i visited a few born-again christian churches and i felt like i was sitting in a kingdom hall of jw's.
because born-agains are more like jw's then they want to admit.
both jw's and ba's think they know everything.

Revelation! 666 Is Not The Number Of The Beast
by Pleasuredome ina newly discovered fragment of the oldest surviving copy of the new testament indicates that, as far as the antichrist goes, theologians, scholars, heavy metal groups, and television evangelists have got the wrong number.
instead of 666, it's actually the far less ominous 616.
the new fragment from the book of revelation, written in ancient greek and dating from the late third century, is part of a hoard of previously unintelligible manuscripts discovered in historic dumps outside oxyrhynchus in egypt.

1 Cor 7:14
by peacefulpete in14for the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are (l)holy.
what in the world does he mean?
countless commentaries have struggled to make sense of the word "holy" in this context.

Day for a year
by startingover inlast night i was reading from the old orange "paradise" book.
in my quest to understand how ideas got into my head, i decided to go back and look at the book that was used by my parents to study with me 40 some years ago.. i came upon the part dealing with the "original lie" from gen. 3:4,5. at this the serpent said to the woman: "you positively will not die.
for god knows that in the very day of your eating it your eyes are bound to be opened and you are bound to be like god, knowing good and bad".

Thinking about Matt 4:21......
by jula71 ini was sitting and thinking of what to write in a da letter, as i've been inspired in a way by a letter i read today.
and one thought i am putting in, is that i have a clean, clear conscience because i believe a loving and understanding god would know that i choose this path due to honest and sincere feelings about the organization.
and i believe a loving god would not destroy a person based on that.

They saw a ghost
by hamsterbait inas a youngster with the original green nwt i could never reconcile how the wts could print in a nt verse "they thought they had seen a ghost!
" when they were adamant such did not exist.. does anyone remember that verse (in acts, i think) i only have later editions where that and others are excised, and now s.o.
is trying to "smokescreen" me with the usual denial card.

Studies of the NT
by Balsam inbart ehrman delivered this presidential address to the audience gathered at the southeastern commission for the study of religion in macon, georgia, on march 14, 1997. a fuller discussion of the textual variants mentioned below (luke 22:19-20) can be found in ehrman's book the orthodox corruption of scripture, pp.
interpreters of the nt are faced with a discomforting reality that many of them would like to ignore.
in many instances, we don't know what the authors of the nt actually wrote.
