praying for mass destruction and death

so i was writing a paper the other day, specifically about the skewed world view that i had had as a witness, and i typed the following - .

pain, misery, strife, these were all things that used to prove to me that jehovah's witnesses were correct in their assessment of a dying world which was soon to be liberated/obliterated by the hand of god.

this "liberation" was something that i desperately longed for.

So many JW's, myself included, tucked away that reality in the dark recesses of our brains & hearts and said Jehovah reads all hearts when it comes to Armaggedon or that there will be major changes before it all breaks loose, yet the WT and Questions from Readers state the very opposite. True there are some that are proud of that fact but I believe a great many don't accept it as so written and ignore and excuse the articles that touch upon it.

I was sobered up during an assembly last year when the speaker said that if Armaggedon came today only 8,000 persons would be alive the next day of the 2.1 million now living in Hawaii. I sat there is total disbelief, then anger then started my journey in researching why he really could say that. The JW literature gives you the four steps we all must take for Salvation, the big one being: You must support and be part of God's SOLE CHANNEL his visible organization on earth. If, not you and the rest are all toast.

I have wondered how many others heard and did not process the speakers comments, and if they did just excused them. When I did bring this to the attention of a few the first comment was "he should not of said that", but then I handed one person the two watchtower articles that show he had the full right to say what has been printed. One's comment when she was reading the WT article was a long "Oh". I told the elder that if we (JWs) dont believe that then we (JW Org) should not print it. Of course then begins the process of saying leave it to Jehovah to read all hearts etc, etc, etc, ignore, excuse and discard, but we (JWs) are still the sole channel of God!

It feels good to be able to see clearly and love freely all mankind.

The Demise Of 1874

russell held that christ's return was realized in 1874. we also know that this date was moved forward by 40 years, to 1914 during the rutherford presidency.

the dishonesty of the society in printing things that either openly state, or strongly imply that a 1914 parousia is what the bible students taught from the very beginning has been the subject of discussion lately.

i think what is far less clear is when and how this change from 1874 to 1914 actually happened.

Thank you for the good scans. Can anyone point me to a thread on the change from using "grace" to "undeserved kindness", I did read a thread the other day that quoted from Ruthersford book "Children" that was given at 1941 convention he referred to "the Lords grace", yet I do not see "grace" being used by Jehovah's witnesses or at least since I was baptised in 1980.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Blondie you are so right, when I read the website FAQ and just could not believe the double talk, masters of manipulation! I would not respond with much more than a "Thank You, hope all is going well with you too." sign off as Living in love and peace for all mankind.

A Day for a Year

the "day for a year"-rule is the basis for some of the fundamental parts of jw-doctrine.

the 1914-date is based on the "day for a year"-rule (7 "biblical times" is 2520 days, substituting a day for a year, you get 2520 years from 607 bc - 1914 ad, blah blah, you know the routine).

the bible says a day is like a thousand years: .

Reasoning Book Page 93: Dates on page 97 there is a chart in calculating the Seven Times in which are quoted the scriptures that use a day for a year: Ezekiel 4:6 and Numbers 14:34.

I read this explanation of the 607 BCE date and shake my head, because at one time I took this all as truth, just didnt realize the rest of the world had a different date that could be support by history not creating a date based on prohectic dates that have various interpretations!

"This just can't last much longer...."

i went over and visited my parents today.

my mom broke her hip while we were in hawaii, and i've been mostly house/bed ridden myself since we got home.

so i finally got over there today.. we talked a little about the hurricane, which was on the news she turned off.

Sorry about your Dad, its hard to watch a parent slip away, my Mom is 84 and has lung cancer. I had a friend ask the other day "boy dont you just want armageddeon to come?" then I reminded her that I do not think that way anymore and dont plan on it happening just as we were taught. So I live now in peace and love for all people not just JWs.

Let us know which island you are moving to.

They Came at me at work.......

there is a "sister" and her daughter, that come to visit different ones at my place of business.

they usually come about 3 times a month, to read a scripture or a paragraph from a magazine, to a couple of people.

they then say hello to me, and leave after making their wt and awake placements.

This just happened to my friend who has not been to a meeting in two years. Sister showed up at her work place and began asking her to attend meetings and even asked if she would be interested in studying again to help her (she was raised in the truth and is 30+yrs) when she said she was not interested in studying then she heaped on the ends coming soon and she needs to take action. This really upset her because she also felt that this was done during the day so that this woman could count her time. Apparently too busy in the evenings to stop by to visit and take away from her person time. The mark of Love really is showing that if the time counts then you count.

Resurrected state?

''for in the resurrection neither do men marry nor women be given in marriage, but are as angels in heaven'' (matthew 22 v 30).

i was taught that this scripture means that the resurrected will be unmarriageable.

(i state what appears to be the obvious, as i have since heard that god would be cruel to disallow the 'reunion' of a happy couple separated by death).. as i understood this scripture to mean the resurrected would be celibate, it made sense to me that they would not have the appearance of 'survivors'.

Will there be three public bathrooms, Men, Women, Others ? I know of a person that asked an elder about this scripture appearing to mean resurrected are in heaven and was told No that they will be neither sex, which she then brought up issue of public bathrooms. He brushed her off for questioning it. Then elders wife cautioned her in questioning scriptures when she couldnt except his explanation and asked for more information.

After reading an article on Where Great Crowd is on another site and comparing the Greek Interlinear with the Greek words and what Franz printed as the translation, plus the 1960 and 1980 Watchtower Articles I am not feeling the Great Crowd is in heaven. Again amazing how twisted the translations and articles are but again I was not a witness in 1960 so I took the 1980 Article Hook, line and sinker.

they were formerly "helpers" or "given ones.

" anthony morris raised a family and then went into the traveling work.

Hey Truthsetsonefree, tell the GB that if they need to increase or replace there is a wonderful annointed one in my area that is around 70 yrs old (a replacement annointed) has good brain function, sense of humor, can walk and talk at the same time. I think there also might be a few others (8,000+) out there in the earth that could be asked if they would like to be in Brooklyn, since the annointed are such a "close knit" group.

My wife is thinking of quitting the "truth"!

last night my wife said she was thinking about quitting the truth.she says she finds it too hard with me having doubts and not wanting to be a jw anymore.she has also been burned by her few jw friends,and the rest are either disfellowshipped or getting divorced.it's really hard to build lasting relationships with such people in the religion.. another positive factor is that she has made 2 good "worldly" friends over the past year.i think she's starting to see that people on the outside can be nice,have morals and accept others as they are.. i hope in time she starts feeling good about this decision and that i can slowly show her the many errors of the wts.so far she agrees with many of the things i've told her but still believes it's the truth.it's a hard battle but i never tought i'd hear her say those words.. btw,she finally called a local elder to see if he can help me with my many questions.he's coming over tonight so it should be quite interesting.i think he'll be a little surprised at some of the direct questions i have;i'm also hoping that after a while he decides there's not much hope for me and just labels me an apostate and starts talking about df'ing me.that would show my wife their attitude towards answering questions that have no scriptural answers.. anyways,i'll do my best to keep you all up-dated.it can be hard to post as my wife diesn't know i come here on a regular basis.. goldminer

Goldminer, the best to you and your wife, while having your meeting with the elder, who I am afraid will not be able to answer your questions very well and to avoid the problem with answers you will become the target eventually, but I think you already know this.

Scully has excellent advice and really look at this issue with your wife. Assure her of your love of her and God but express your hope that she will come to her own decision. Perhaps your Tuesday or Thursday nights could be taking one topic that she needs answered and examine the topic together and come to an understanding together. After all that is what the original christian meetings (in homes) were for discussion and understanding of scripture. There are many bible commentaries on the web to use in addition to the NWT Bible and when she is really ready start reading the Greek Interlinear from JWs and you will find many changes made by Franz.

But steady and slow is the best approach as this really does need to be an individual issues. Remember you are not leaving Jehovah and Jesus you are just leaving a man's organization. If you have not read In Search of Christian Freedom by Ray Franz it is well worth obtaining and browsing through, especially his thoughts on where do we go when we have left the Jehovah's Witness organization.

Thank you Blondie. I am forwarding this study article to a friend who has recently had her family tell her that she will not be in new system due to not attending meetings last couple years. Although she attended the memorial (for the last time) this year. So sad the Guilt Trips being passed on in the name of Love.
