i seem to remember a kingdom ministry (or was it a watchtower?
) that praised the bros. for selling their houses and using the last few years of "this old system of things" to pioneer... right before 1975. does anyone know which one it was?.
i need it for a ebay person that is calling their fellow bros and sis idiots if they thought that armageddon was coming in 1975.

I personally can appreciate efforts to preserve our planet, but I think a fair assesment of both sides of the issue is warranted.

we had one jw house that used to be totally dark except for the porch light so we could read their sign- we are jw's and do not celebrate halloween.
We always left the house until late on Halloween night. I can only remember one time being home and it was because it was a Tuesday night and we had bookstudy at our house. (ohh weren't WE the priveledged ones! ) I can remember the knocking going on through the entire study about every five minutes, and some of those little kids were relentless-lol.
I only remembered getting egged once though, I think that it was pretty much understood where I grew up that if the porch light wasn't on, just go to the next house... no big deal.
i've been thinking a lot lately about the kids in my former congregation.
i miss them the most.
i was the sister who hung with the kids and took interest in them.
Have you ever thought of leading a Girl Scout troop or being a "Big Sister"? You sound like you would be FANTASTIC at it, and help a lot of little ones in the process!

Billygoat- I've never heard of anyone else who's Dad did the snapping thing with their belt. My Dad LOOOVED that. It got to the point that he would reach for his belt buckle (this by the way was when we were much younger before he moved to the paddle) and thats all it took for us to start crying and grovelling.
I completely understand about the whole "still missing him" thing. My whole life until about 20 yrs old revolved around trying to get him to be proud of me. I finally understood it wasn't possible. He was just an extension of the Society's policy of "You can never do enough". I haven't heard from him in years, last time I talked to him it was for him to tell me he wouldn't be attending my wedding. A good thing really... I wanted to ENJOY my wedding.
Also, I absolutely agree with your counselor about it being a form of sexual abuse. He felt the need to degrade women and you were an easy target. Why is it we were so afraid of the abuse being found out when we were younger??? At least that was my experience. I can remember friends seeing my bruises and wanting to notify a teacher and me BEGGING them not to tell. I just knew in my heart that it would be worse for me if I did.
The upside is, because of this, I can really appreciate what a warm loving family is. I LOVE my life now, and even HE can't take that away from me!!!

Because my business is online I am able to stay home with the kiddos and am very lucky to have the time to make nice dinners every night. (For the most part anyways). I wouldn't take a million bucks to give back the traditions we have that revolve around dinner time. The kids taking turns bringing the dishes into the dining room and setting the table. Taking turns talking about their day. I just love it! I really hope to keep up this habit until they're out of the house.

is jehovah correct, is it not, is it too associated with jws for you to carry on doing that?
I am a person of Faith, but I don't feel it's respectful to call God by name , whatever you think that may be. To me it's like calling your Dad by his first name. Personally, I use "Father", "Lord" and "God". But that's just my take on it.
As far as Bible translations, I really like the New International Version and also use the New King James Version. The NIV is especially easy to understand.

Oh yes. My father loved to hit us. He even had a large wooden paddle that he'd bring out, and tell us to bend over the couch. We had to grab onto the back for dear life and try not to make a sound until it was over. If we made any noise sometimes he'd start over. I can remember many a time hiding bruises from the middle of my back to my knees when I changed for gym class. I don't know why, but I was terrified that anyone would see them and report my Dad.
This is the same man who would give talks all over the state about loving your children and having a warm Christian family. I think it's an Elder prerequisite to be a pompous hypocrite.

it used to be quite common for people to go out in field service on sundays after the meeting.........and even fairly regularly on some evenings.. in our hall, this has turned into a bit of a charade..........it's always announced there will be a meeting for service, etc.
etc............but no one at all goes out........not even the brother taking the arrangement.. i don't think many spend their evenings doing this anymore either.. is this what is happening in other congregations?
I can remember in my congregation the only time anyone went out in service on a Sunday was when the CO was visiting. It was pretty humorous to see them all clamouring to appear zealous those few times a year, and then fall back to nothing the very next Sunday.
but did you notice that maybe 1% of the witnesses actually read the magazines?
it really doesn't kick in does it?
the fact that someone's eternal salvation can hinge on whether they accept the "interesting" magazines offered at their door... yet chances are, the ones offering it hadn't read them... now that's interesting!.
Heh, I can remember having the same spiel I used everytime I went in field service, and only changed it to say something about the headline. Such drivel... I think the householders even knew that *I* knew.
