Making new friends after fading
by M@el5trom inwhat are some good methods for finding and making new friends after fading away?
i know this is critical to help myself and my wife to move on, and we both have suffered from depression partly because we are isolated to each other for now.
we are good friends, but we both feel the need for others also.

The advice to get involved in charitable works is really good. Not only will you meet people, but in my experience it fills the void left by thinking you were "helping" people all those years, and yet knowing deep down that you weren't. It feels good to really really help people. At 18 I joined a local volunteer Fire Department and became a certified Firefighter. Volunteering doesn't get any better than that in my book (Ive since had children and quit running into burning buildings, but the experience was key in bulstering my self esteem and finding a social group)
I also got involved in another church when I was ready too. I searched high and low for a church I liked, going to all the places I would have never stepped foot in before. It was an eye opener for me. I don't know if I was expecting goat heads on the walls or what. After about two years I found a church I loved, and have made some pretty amazing friends. Of course I only say this as a suggestion... I don't know if you are ready to even think about this, or are open to an alternative faith.

I was born and raised in Oregon so most of these went over my head
But my husband was born and bred there... he got quite a chuckle out of it.

I remember about six months ago there was a bunch of news about a woman selling her fathers ghost on Ebay. It came along with his cane. If I remember right her little son was freaked out about being haunted by his Grandfathers ghost so she did this to make him feel better.

What's The Main Concern For A Jehovah's Witness?.. How About A Christian's?
by minimus injws clearly don't seem to be like other "christian" religions when it comes to their mission.
a jw's mission is simply to preach.
taking care of the ill, doing errands for the elderly, visiting other members----these are not priorities to a witness.

yes... sadly, it's all about the numbers, and like you said- "appearances".
And you know they are aware people are wholesale fudging their timecards. The fact they don't council on it tells me what you said is true. What a racket.
It's so nice to volunteer for charities now.... and never count a minute.

No, in fact, I think people were much happier if they found NO ONE.
I don't miss that cringing feeling at EVERY door I knocked on just hoping that no one would answer.
And it never seemed to bother anyone that people could be in "The Truth" for 20 years or more and never convert a single soul. Thinking back thats just CRAZY! I pioneered every summer for about four years and never had a single study.... and liked it that way!

Although women have a subservient "role" in the congregations, I can say that I was glad to be female. I would have HATED doing the crap that men had to do to get anywhere in the congregation. Way to much bureaucracy for me.
As the spawn of an Elder, I did however get suckered into alot of public performances. I was in a drama one year at a District Convention. I played a BAAAAD girl, who tried to lead astray a fine upstanding JW youth. (If only...) I did alot of small Assembly stuff too, experiences and the like. I hated doing them, but I can remember feeling very prideful over the pats on the back Id get from it. I'd do anything to make people proud of me and like me. Too bad they couldnt just like me for who I was, but that's a different thread....

Signs of the end, are they so clear that we don't see them anymore?
by JH in7 ?for nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be food shortages and earthquakes in one place after another.
8 all these things are a beginning of pangs of distress.
9 ?then people will deliver you up to tribulation and will kill you, and you will be objects of hatred by all the nations on account of my name.

That Birthdays are BAD but Anniversarys are OK.
Christmas trees and lights are BAD but Wedding rings, bridesmaids, and wedding cakes are OK.
