Well... I guess most of you people don't believe in the doctrines anymore. I have done a lot of reading of tne NWT. I still think it's the best translation. I have looked at the "fors" and "against" side of it.
If you read Gerard Gertoux's book, "The name of God Yehowah," he explains both "Yehua," and "Yehovah," have always been used as pronunciation, or at least approximate pronunciations and it wasn't made up 500 years ago.
I knew that slientlambs.org exists and I would believe it anyway. Their conduct is completely wrong but I still believe in most of their doctrines, almost all. They explain why they wrote "a god." It suffices to me. they gave proof with other readings from at least 500 years ago other translations using "a god," instead of the Word being God, which is wrong. If you spoke with someone that didn't know anything about the Bible, they would say John 1:1 is a tautology! Is God stupid? No. So it has to mean "a god." It's an indefinite article put before a predicate noun. That's all it is... a prophet, a thief, a man... they give heaps of examples of it being written in the From the Greek Text.
I understand why you people write such negative thoughts about the Witnesses. But I love Jehovah, and I refuse to not believe him, just because of some evil humans that refuse to change things...
If there were a Reformed Jehovah's Witnesses, I would go to that one instead! But that would probably become corrupt as well.
You can't change these people, just like you can't put new wine into old wineskins.

Anyone like me where you still believe in MOST of their doctrines?
by inquirer inlike i don't like that un involvment, record keeping.
i don't know what to think about the paedophile stuff, because you could accuse the catholic church of that too.
but apart from those things i still believe that god's name is jehovah, his son is jesus, no trinity, and he died on a torture stake... i love reading the new world translation, i believe it's the best one, but i love reading other translations too!

I love reading the New World Translation, I believe it's the best one, but I love reading other translations too! I believe that you are suppose to preach and then you don't see others doing it, except for Mormons and a few other kinds, but then again they believe in Joseph Smith and the cross (The Society did offer proof in my opinion anyway.)
But I don't think they Have "love," and they are a bit cold blodded and superficial when they ask about you.
It's a bit like what this guy said in this group if that Adrian Smith didn't rejoin Iron Maiden with Bruce, Bruce wouldn't have ever came back to the group. Well, that's how I feel about the JW's. If they got rid of records, and fixed up this "2 Witness policy" I would join them back. And if they "cleaned out the paedophiles" from the congregation. But as I said I don't know much about this because I see other Churches... yeah said it before...
So are there other people who agree with me? -

KM in 1974 praising people for selling all their stuff and pioneering?
by ithinkisee insomeone on this site mentioned they got a km off ebay that praised those that sold all their belongings and preached.. does anyone know which km that was?.
interesting, when going through the society's cd-rom i noticed that the drama for the district convention in 1975 was about noah's ark and was something along the lines of "there's still time left!
" (i'm paraphrasing).. -dm

Did you notice that they were a lot of "rich Witnesses" in the organization
by inquirer ini remember this guy once, after the book study (the one where you go to someone's house to study a book) boasting on this house he wanted to buy!
it made me feel sick!
he was showing off so much!

or was it just me?
I remember this guy once, after the book study (the one where you go to someone's house to study a book) boasting on this house he wanted to buy! It made me feel sick! He was showing off so much! And that infuriated me because I was (still am) a poor person! The house was not 1 story, not 2 story.... BUT 3 STORIES HIGH!!! And he is suppose to be a Jehovah's Witness? The elder there apparently was helping him buy it. But didn't tell him to "cut down" one level. :(
How do they get around the Scripture about the rich man likened to a camel going through the eye of the needle?
But he wasn't the only one. There were others too. Elders, and ordinary Witnesses who wanted to buy their own houses and be landlords too.
I think the only people who can be JW's are rich people. When I went there, they looked down on you and would avoid "associating" (they love that word :D ) with you. Almost like I am a "bad association" myself. Maybe I spoilt there evil habbits? -

A religion with nothing to Celebrate
by eyeslice inhow sad that the witnesses have nothing to celebrate.
the more i think about it since i stopped going to the meetings, the more i feel that spirituality and religion are about opportunities to give thanks and to celebrate life with family and friends.
christenings or name giving ceremonies celebrate the gift of a new life to a family.

I still say you guys are sorta right but sorta off a bit. THe casino thing was great tho, and so was the "speacial magazine day" was great.
But notice muslims, budhist, muslims, jews, hindus, communist (atheist), and "christians". Will all pull holidays out their collective butts to get them simple excuse to predictably and anually celebrate something. The watchtower in its 120 year history could not even make up dates so JWs to celebrate. I mean 0ct 1 (gentile times declared early by CTR) would be an awesome jw holiday. Even with out decorations or gifts we in jw fashion could at least get a speacial talk. Nope we got nothing and they tell us to work holidays so we can rotate fridays for the assemblies.
We are just too Jaded and cynical to understand um... the concept that life means something now instead of after you die.
And why in hell do JWs celibrate thanks giving? We are already invited to a small thanks giving party. I notice JW thanks givings are weird too. Instead of inviting the family from around the country to fly over. We invite local people from the hall.
_____________
My goodness! What a great idea they should celebrate - The Gentile Times! WOW! Thanks for posting that for us!
But hey! I'll put an end to you with all these celebration thoughts! ;) -

Do Jehovah's Witnesses keep records on people?
by inquirer ini have known some people (i dont' know if it's true or not) [and i am the kind of person that doesn't like to cause trouble] who have said that jehovah's witnesses keep tabs/records on people.
all the things they have done like if they got babtized, personal problems/experiences, arguments they may had with people, and just their general conduct as well.
have any people here found out about a "black book" where they keep records on you?

It is TOTALLY TRUE - as a former elder I can confirm it -also read Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience -he likened it to keeping dirt in a glass storage jar

The WTS is founded on faultfinding. Their history is filled with it. They find fault with churches, governments, businesses, entertainment, media, and essentially everything they do not directly control.
It's to be expected that they would keep detailed records about their members for the purpose of faultfinding. I'd be willing to bet they don't keep records about any good things their members do.
