The bookstudy was always at our house while growing up. Dad was the cong overseer. I never could understand how Mom could pull it all off after their arguments prior to the study hour and being "Bitch slapped" by him. The conductor was a wonderful fella of the annointed, I aways felt he should have recieved info from the great Jah that things were really very bad in our house. It should have been disbanded, I would have been happy for that. Apparently the Almighty was not active in our area.

by Mary ini just got word that the bookstudy attendance in one of the groups at my hall has dwindled off to numbers so pitiful that they're dissolving this particular bookstudy group and splitting up the remainder and shipping them out to other bookstudy groups.

"I prayed for you"
by Scully inif you aren't a "believer", does it bother you when someone says "i'll pray for you" or "i prayed for you"?.
one of my colleagues is an incredibly kind and sweet person, and i know she says it because she believes she's doing something good on my behalf.
i always say "thank you for thinking of me", because i know that's the spirit she's intending to convey and that she cares about the situation i'm in vis-a-vis my jw relatives, but she knows i no longer believe in god (at least not in the sense that she does) - i wonder does she think that a few prayers are going to change my mind?

I find it rude, as I consider the person being passive aggressive. Who are they to assume that is all it would take to make me or things better? Especially when it is unasked for. And what makes them think them claiming to pray for me or my situation gives them any power to make me feel better? Now a hug, a card, or simply a sincere listening look eye to eye would do far more!

My Father, an elder for at least 40yrs., lost his specialness to me when he became an elder as he became a fanatic. What a wonderfull person he was before that fatefull time. It turned my Mother (who is very intelligent) into a beaten down old woman. They are now abt 80. Have they wasted their lives? I do not know, maybe it fulfilled something for them. But it certainly did not for me. My brother, an elder, spent the night in jail for beating up his wife,(probably not still an elder, I would hope) one sister is hooked on prescription pain pills and works the system to support her habit, as well as being a hypocondriac, ahemm 25+ surguries?!. And still a Witness. Happily, my other sister simply faded with her family and are all doing well and happy. So, what can I say about the 2 elders as an ode? I am as disappointed and hurt as I feel you may be, Nos.

What made YOU drop Christianity?

the way franz explained it, all that is required is to have faith in jesus and to love your neighbor as yourself and then you will be 'saved'.
the more i started pealing away at the onion though the dumber the premise of someone dying for my 'sins' seemed, and i just lost faith in it altogether.

Christianity has an unacceptable resume with a rotten track record - All Christianity in my opinion. Knowing and trusting myself is all there really is for me. Probably all there really ever was, and that's what got me in constant trouble growing up and attempting to continue believing the JW organization as an adult. I was always accused of being a witch, even when I had no idea of what the label meant. The Bible is built on many older (than it) stories and myths and organized into a very efficient political machine. For me now as always, I am connected to the earth (mother nature) and the energies involved. These are concrete, visible, ummm, some invisible, such as the wind. This is good enough for me, as working with it brings me deep contentment and a spiritual satisfaction.

Community Service and the JW's
by startingover ina florists went to a barbershop for a haircut and went to pay the barber when he was done.
the barber thought that was very nice.
later that afternoon a cop came in for a haircut when he was finished he went to pay the barber but again the barber said he couldn't accept payment since he was doing community service.

Oh how true about the JW's. I was never so sorry as when I foolishly let those in my congregation know I was talented at cutting hair. I also told them I did not expect payment. I never, out of, oh, probably 50+ haircuts got anything back except a simple thank you. It hurt my feelings & my heart that my efforts and generosity were taken so lightly and apparently unappreciated beyond an empty thankyou. Almost as though I owed it to them because they were my "brothers & sisters"! Phoooey! I spit on them...
