Neighborhood Preaching: Post a ?No Trespassing? sign at your home. Click here to view a letter from the wts instructing "publishers" not to visit homes with No Tresspassing signs on them: http://www.dannyhaszard.com/notrespassing.htm
Telephone preaching:
Option 1: Get caller ID and don?t answer unwanted calls.
Option 2: Contact your phone co. to find out if they offer a service for you to block calls from certain telephone numbers.
Option 3: If you do accidentally talk to them, tell them they are to cease calling you immediately. If they continue calling, file a complaint with the police and phone co. complaint bureau. Normally, you must feel annoyed, alarmed, or harassed in order for action to be taken. (I personally would feel all of those if somebody calls me with a message that I?ll be killed by God soon, even if it was stated subtly.)
Putting stuff in or on your mailbox with no postage: It is a federal offense. Law: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm/d041.htm#Rbi31049 File a complaint with the US Postmaster. How to complain: http://www.usps.com/ncsc/locators/find-is.html Enter your zip code first.
Putting stuff in or on your mailbox with postage:
Option 1: Don?t open it?mark it ?return to sender, refused?, cross out your address, circle the return address, and put it back in the mail. If unwanted mail persists, write a letter to the congregation, by certified mail with return receipt, indicating no further mail should be sent.
Option 2: File a complaint with the US postal office. See here for details: http://www.junkbusters.com/dmlaws.html Be sure to scroll down and read the links to the Supreme Court?s decision that the individual receiving the mail is allowed to determine whether or not the content is offensive. Another option is to file a complaint here: http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors/fraud/MailFraudComplaint.htm Use the ?unwanted mail? category.
Emails:
Option 1: Use your blocking capabilities.
Option 2: On mine, I can send an automated message to particular email addresses if they send me anything. You could put a message indicating you wish their contact to cease to be automatically sent back to them.

I agree, the ultimate goal should still be to hold the WTS itself liable....but this is a great start!

I read much of the book last night. It was hilarious and disturbing at the same time. I read some of it to my husband, and we had some good laughs....especially the part where you are not allowed to touch your spouse's breasts or genitals for foreplay, only for intercourse itself. (If that isn't anti-women, I don't know what is!) The JC is supposed to ask enough questions to determine if porneia occurred. So, in other words, they are delving into your sex life! But it's not a cult....ummmm, right.
Then once the JC meeting is scheduled and the victim is a married female, her husband must be present so he can use his headship over her to get her to repent and promise to stop. (Again with the anti-women crap.)
The sections on how to deal with interested ones reads like a manual on how to inculcate and brainwash someone. First remove their ideas about the bible and life, then replace them with the troof, then help them to cut off all their relationships with others, then replace the lost relationships with jws.

JWs and Clothing
by the_classicist inwhere i live, its not usual for people to "dress up," especially business people and executives, you are more likely to see them with a button up shirt, khakis, and one of those fleece vests on.
so, on the whole, jws look very out of place wearing their cheap suits (though a few elders didn't wear cheap suits and they made that known, "look at this, i got a spot on my new $200 designer shirt" -- really, something like this happened).
but what i did notice is that, in my area, dressing guidelines usually weren't followed, or enforced for that matter, for good looking women.

Can some male on this thread please explain what is so scandalously sexy about wearing a skirt and sandals without stockings? I just don't get it. What is the big whoop with skipping a see-through layer of nylon on the calves (assuming she is still wearing panties)?
I just remembered another story. A jw woman showed up out in service with pants, saying she couldn't stand the cold because she had some medical problem. She also wore pants to the meetings. She was brought before the elders. She stuck to her guns. They told her to stop going in field service until she was able to wear skirts. She eventually stopped going to the meetings, too. Can't say I blame her.

Dorkinaut23,
You are right about the Eve/getting married issue. You also recall that there is a scripture condemning those who forbid to marry. Of course the Society is not doing that outright; however, as you know, it is strongly discouraged. Here are some more references for you on this topic. I hope they will help: FACE THE FACTS, pp. 46, 49-50 ; Watchtower, 3/1/1988, pp.18-27 ; CHILDREN, p. 366-367; AWAKE!, 11/8/1974 p.11. I think you will have difficulty finding a recent publication that retracts any of the things published in those.
I hear where you?re coming from and understand. I, too, feel quite uncomfortable with some of the teachings of the WTS and the local Elders. I hope it will lead you to continue your research.

Re the Holy Grail, I remember being taught that the chalice was made out of wood and had disintegrated long ago....just another example of Pagan worship of objects, ya know.

She wore a bikini when she was baptized, too, and do you think anything was ever said to her? No!
Wow. My area was militant about adherence to dress codes. No one would be allowed in the baptism pool without a thigh-length t-shirt over the bathing suit, and there's no way you could wear a bikini underneath. A sista was stationed in the changing room to check out our suits and t-shirts to make sure they were ok. If she didn't give it her ok, you couldn't get baptized!
I was on an assembly part once and had to bring in my clothes to the elders for pre-approval. Had to be a v-ee-rr-yyy long skirt, no slits, and it had to be full--no straight cuts.
I once got counseled for wearing a straight skirt that was knee-length (very business/professional-looking) out in service. A dub the same age as me told me I looked like a whore. I said, you are nuts, he turned me into the elders for not respecting his headship. (We were teenagers.) Then I was in trouble, both for wearing the skirt, and for not obeying the he-male dub. The elders said the fact that my skirt was red, was straight instead of full, and showed part of my kneecaps made it inappropriate.
Anyway, I think they're too lax about clothes. The Jews in the Bible had to wear unfashionable fringe to signify they were separate from the world. I think the dubs don't take that far enough. Why stop at suits and haircuts? Why not wear full-length robes and headcoverings all the time? I guess that would hurt recruitment efforts. :)

Does the bible teach that man is superior to women or just diffrerent?
by JH in.
looking at how the jw's treat sisters compared to brothers, it would seem that the jw's think that men are superior to women.. is this what the bible really says?.

I think, besides the overt statements that males are heads over women (it's shameful for her to instruct, etc), there are the subtle messages in the Bible (speaking of the jw bible). For example, how many women wrote books of the Bible? Women make up half the population. The authors of the Bible surely didn't represent a good cross-section of the population. How many apostles were women? How many women are mentioned in a leadership role at all?
We have to remember that the Bible was created by the Roman Catholic Church centuries after the books were written. Tons of books were submitted for inclusion, but only a very few were selected. The rest of the books are not considered holy books, while those that were selected, are. The WTS made a few deletions of RC books and then re-translated the remaining books, viola, they call it their very own bible. Yeah, the dubs call the RCs evil but they sure feel just fine accepting the books the RCs selected to include in the bible. Those of you into books about the Templars know the theory that the reasons the RCs declined to include many books is because they painted women in an equal role to men. That would be consistent with the view of females at the time. Add to that the fact that women were belittled in the authors' days. So not only the content of each book was less than favorable to women, only books that were so were even included in the bible. All others are considered unholy.
I do not believe that the Bible is a sacred book; however I do believe that women should be treated as an equal in every way
Agreed!
