Satan pushed me down the stairs the other night
Why would Satan push you down the stairs? I thought you and he were friends, now that you're an apostate and all. Maybe it was the big J that pushed you down the stairs.
*** grunt *** *** grunt *** *** grunt ***.
as some of you already know, satan pushed me down the stairs the other night and broke my ankle.
i'm proud to say that the bruises appear to have come to full maturity and are looking very manly.

now, it may be that the society is partly on the defensive in regard to using disfellowshipping to break up families.. they may be faced with future legal troubles and lawsuits in europe and other nations.
they might be faced with.
losing tax exemptions and legal recognition.. on the other hand, they may be trying to 'softpedal' the whole subject by the new announcement that "so and so.
OP
I think you are on the right track. People have been raising questions for years as to the legality and feasibility of suing the JWs for their DF/DA practices, but no actions are viable.
I think the place this issue needs to be "tried" is in the "courts of public opinion", ie, the media! One of the most disturbing things about JWs is the DF/DA practice. People tend to peg them as nuts when they learn about that practice; it really turns them off.
what are the wts' long term (5+ years) and short term (up to 2 years) plans?.
the leaders know the end isn't right around the corner despite what they tell the r&f.
otherwise they would not have built patterson and purchased new presses.. the leaders are faced with mounting problems: declining statistics in developed countries, the internet, lawsuits, etc.
Now that Armageddon isn't going to come (this time) for another 29 years, I wonder what impact this will have on the b0rg? Do you think people will "fall away" now and then there'll be a mad dash to the baptismal pools in 2033, like there was in 1974? In 2033, do you think the dubs will be madly buying up big screen tvs that they'll think they won't have to pay for, then declare bankruptcy when 2035 rolls around and Armageddon hasn't come yet?
but you have to admit that some are nice caring people.
my wife missed the meeting to night due to flu and a sister who has far more health problems than us phoned to ask after her.
she even asked after me, brother 'long time no see'!
And here I am to throw a wet blanket on this thread.
Acting nice some/most of the time does not make someone is truly a nice person. Serial killers do nice things sometimes, too.
I also have my doubts as to the sincerity of "nice" acts done in response to commandments to be kind. I'd prefer to get my kindness from people who are doing it because they want to, not out of fear of divine punishment and desire to obtain divine rewards.
i gave blood for the first time some 18 months ago, i did it on impulse one day on the way home from work so stupidly i'd not eaten.
felt fine after and returned home where i started to feel faint and was sick so asked a relative (a jw) to phone me in ill for my pub job.
their response was 'serves you right for giving blood'.
The poisons that produce the impulse to commit suicide, murder, or steal are in the blood. Moral insanity, sexual perversions, repression, inferiority complexes, petty crimes - these often follow in the wake of blood transfusion.
Sorry to belabor this point, but I'm just so fascinated with this quote! Did anyone else notice the following:
"Moral insanity"--what is that? Morality is a person's ethics/values, insanity is mental illness. How do these concepts relate to each other?
"repression"--HUH? What do they mean?
"inferiority complexes...follow in the wake of blood transfusion..." HUH? They are mentioning crimes, and then inferiority complexes? What in the world does that have to do with crime and perversion? Is this a dub way of referring to clinical depression?

in this disassociation letter example it says the following:.
"at one time, all blood products were unacceptable.
There are a bunch of quotes at:
my therapist and i talked about the bible, specifically, adam and eve and their sinning by eating from the forbidden fruit.
he says it is really a great lesson on consequences of your actions.
i agreed and we talked at some length about it, but one thing i decided, god was not fair.
God was not fair. How could Adam and Eve, with only limited knowledge, be expected to make a decison that ultimely cost them their life? I know God said they would die, but they were as children and how many children really understand consequences?
Well Wednesday, maybe you should do a little shopping at Tuesday Morning, then stop off for a sundae at TGI Fridays....ok, that sounded a lot more funny before I typed it.
Returning you to your regularly scheduled thread. God was not fair in Eden, and he hasn't been fair since. That is, if you're assuming he is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnibenevolent. If you believe God possesses all of those qualities, then there is no explanation for the existence of injustice, evil, disease, and death.
So the moral of the story is...either God doesn't possess one of those qualities, or God doesn't exist.
apostate - .
deserter: a disloyal person who betrays or deserts his cause or religion or political party or friend etc.
not faithful to religion or party or cause .
the 'Great Apostate Scare of '81'
Jeff, what is that? Never heard of the Scare of '81. I was only 13 then. I have noticed there was a lot of stuff in the WTS lit about apostates in the '80s. What happened?

True. I also used to think apostates were demonized. We were all taught that, but it didn't help matters that some apostates would act strange:
*One came up to me when I was in an ice cream shop, ranting and shouting like a lunatic about how bad the JWs are. I was about 12 years old and was scared. My family sat down at a table, he sat a few tables away and continued to shout the whole time. I think he got kicked out of the shop.
*Apostates who would yell and make fun of us as we were leaving the assemblies. They were really acting like lunatics, and that's what put me off (not their message). Since when does insulting someone win them over to your point of view?
*Apostates who would enter the assemblies and shout things at the speakers and try to get up on the stage. The bros would call the cops and have them removed. It caused such a commotion. I was a child and thought they were crazy. The only reaction they got was for the JWs to strengthen their faith, because they claimed Satan was working against them through the apostates.
I'm not knocking anyone who does this stuff, really. To each, his own. I can definitely understand the anger and desire to act out so strongly. I feel so strongly myself, I have to exercise a lot of restraint. Because of my experiences though, I personally don't think the strong approach is very effective. I think talking to people over the internet, putting up web sites, talking to people I meet--stuff like that is much more effective. People are more likely to listen if you speak in an organized, polite, articulate manner, and back up your accusations with facts and references. Just my humble opinion.
like the idea that alcoholics have a particular gene, certain mannerisms we inherit from parents or grand-parents, red hair is a recessive gene etc.
is religion inherited as a life style or emotional dependency?????????????????
is it low self-esteem and the need for others to decide what is right and wrong, how to live and even die???????.
Very true.
People have different emotional needs, and some of them choose to use religion to meet them. I also believe there's nothing wrong with religion (provided it's not a destructive group).
People have fulfilled their emotional needs by joining religions for thousands of years--affiliation, socialization, structure, morals, connecting with their internal sense of spirituality, meditation, etc. For many years, religion was also a vehicle for people to learn language/literacy, experience literature, music, and art, when they would have had little or no opportunity to experience those things outside of a church. Churches were the center of culture itself.
I don't have any of those needs that I can't fulfill alone, but I don't have any issues with others who do. I don't see it as a weakness, just a life choice.
