What I am condemning is someone whom becomes aware that their child or a child has been abused and does not go to the authorities first
Ok, that's right, adults of sound body and mind need to take responsibility for their own actions.
However, that is really not the main issue here. The one and only person responsible for the crime of child rape is the rapist.
Leaders of a religion whose evangelical and social practices supply adults with unfettered access to a pool of potential victims must take better precautions than dubs do. It's wrong to accept a leadership role in any group and then cherry pick which things you're going to lead and ignore the rest. That makes you a cowardly, negligent shithead.
Leaders of said religion should not punish victims for being victims. (I have seen that punishment happen to someone.)
They should not interview victims about details of the assault. Besides the fact that it is none of their business, it humiliates and traumatizes the victim.
Leaders of that religion should not gossip about the victim to their wives, who spread it around the hall and the victim is further humiliated and ostracized, just for being a victim.
Leaders of said religion, who punish people for swimming at the YMCA or practicing yoga, should not be so lenient with pedophiles. That creates a social acceptability for rape.
etc.

Are you an "out of the closet" atheist?
by rebel8 ini'm atheist and not ashamed of it.
however, it is so politically incorrect, especially where i live.
i have a legitimate concern that being out of the closet too much will hurt my career or neighborly relations--i know for a fact it probably would.. i'm really cautious about who i tell.. how about you?

Pretty disturbing. You can be executed for being an atheist in some countries.
In the US, Land of the Free, 8 states still ban atheists from holding public office, even though that's against the Constitution.

For the new year:
I would like peace in my life. Peace at work from all the drama, stress and bullying.
I would like more free time to meditate, cook, exercise, make friends and make art--and the energy to do it.
I would like to renovate my house. (We're exchanging gifts related to this. Finally. I've been telling mr. rebel8 this is what I want every yr and he always felt like it wasn't a real gift if it was for the house.)
I would like health and happiness for all my loved ones. I would like some of them to visit me.

REBEL8 - maybe I'm wrong, but I thought you lived in NYC
I lived in New York State, not NYC. Bad enough there--lots of Catholic conservatives and your career goes further if you say you're Catholic too. In fact, I attended Mass in the chapel at my work (hosptial) many times, and it was a networking opportunity. I had a boss who did novenas with me, at her request. I am not kidding. It's totally inappropriate, but there you go.
Now I live elsewhere and it's a different flavor of religion but more widespread and extreme. People seem to mind their own business a little more here, but they have more fundie views and it's socially acceptable to consider atheists demonic, evil, etc. I've seen it on resumes.

The ideas and suggestions of cultBgone & rebel8 towards the topicstarter sounds pretty brainwashing too
I tried to understand your POV and failed. My post says to keep stating the fact that mommy has a belief so the child realizes people can have different beliefs without them being right or facts.
The dictionary disagrees with your definition.
brain wash ing
1. a method for systematically changing attitudes or altering beliefs, originated in totalitarian countries, especially through the use of torture, drugs, or psychological-stress techniques. 2. any method of controlled systematic indoctrination, especially one based on repetition or confusion: brainwashing by TV commercials. 3. an instance of subjecting or being subjected to such techniques: efforts to halt the brainwashing of captive audiences.
Factnet's definition also disagrees with your definition (coercive mind control).

How about you? Have you come out of the closet at work, etc.? How did it go?
