I feel like there should be a fiddle solo in Georgia in that scenario.

I Offer You This Choice
by simon17 insuppose the following choice were offered you, and you had to choose one or the other.
which would you pick (and perhaps why):.
1) you can continue living your life as it is, die when you might, and that's that.. 2) you can instead agree to die in 1 year in exchange for this: you will be granted access to the entire past and future history of intelligent life in the universe.

by Coded Logic inthere seems to be an endless number of ways to show the bible is not devinely inspired but all of it seems so complicated.

Why Do Witnesses Promote A Unhealthy Lifestyle, My COBE weighs 340lbs (5ft 7in).
by BucketShopBill inplease don't take this the wrong way if your battling weight problems, that's not what this thread is meant to talk about.
i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.
i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

So many normal recreational activities are prohibited, like dancing and sports, so what do dubs do to have fun? Eat.
Dubology does not teach respect for the earth or body here and now. jehoopla is going to make it all new and perfect in the future. Focusing on the now means you lack faith.

Being a SPIRITUAL ATHEIST is a good step!
by Pinku inreligions, in general, did not inspire people to be good, because the means they used was illogicality.
for example: one religion teaches: humans became sinners through one man, and would become righteous through another man.

Has it not always been entwined with religion, though?
IMO it's compromising something that shouldn't be compromised. It reminds me of when my jw parent calls gay partners "friends" or "roommates". She cannot bear to speak aloud what it really is, because it's distasteful to her.
It should be socially acceptable to claim to be an atheist without tempering it with religion-based words. It should not be distasteful. That would be the mark of a reasonable society.
------------
Edit: I have changed my view on this over the years after thinking a great deal about it. @ first I defined myself that way, but I quickly learned this was offensive to many atheists. My immediate reaction was that is silly, but I came to understand and agree.
It is not possible to be "spiritual" without a religious framework. Belief in the supernatural is religious.
Here is an article on it.
Respectfully, ~me

what year was the blood liason commitee started and was it really put into place to help get ones to take blood, fractions and hemopure?
by Crazyguy inwas it really put up to help doctors and patients deal with the blood issue or to talk more jws in to taking fractions components and hemopure?.

Help people get more fractions? In jw fundieland, fractions were and are taboo. The HLC, if anything, interfered with dubs getting fractions.

How do you think we'll be remembered?
by rebel8 insome day far in the future, will we be looked upon as suffragettes who abolished cults with tenacity, courage and outspokenness?.
will future generations shudder at the backwardness of cultures that permitted cults to flourish, and not comprehend how this could have happened?.
will they be grateful for being spared death and suffering at the hands of cults because of what we are doing to expose them and reduce their growth?.

Ok, so let's compare this to women's rights in the United States. This directly affects >half our country's population. These things were accomplished by advocates.
How much do you remember? Don't cheat.
In what year did it become legal for women to practice medicine, and what was the name of the first woman to receive a medical degree?
When was the 19th Amendment passed, giving women the right to vote? Name a few women who voted before that in protest, and explain what happened to them.
Which happened first, a woman running for President or women getting the right to vote?
In what year was birth control information declassified as obscene?
In what year did the Equal Rights Amendment pass?
In what year did it become legal to sell a single woman The Pill for the purpose of birth control? Name an advocate for it.
When could women apply for credit cards?
When was marital rape regarded as a crime?
When could women own property aside from their husbands?
My point is...these things happened more recently than you'd think. Have we already forgotten? Do we just take it all for granted if it didn't happen to us personally? Is that human nature?

Humanism is one way of thought. We do not need the supernatural realm to be ethical and reach our potential.
I shed the word "spiritual" as a personal adjective. New age philosophies have attempted to redefine the word as its antonym, but it just strikes me as another way to make atheism more palatable to non-atheists. IMHO
spir·it·u·al ˈspiriCHo͞oəl adjective adjective: spiritual
- 1.
of, relating to, or affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.
"I'm responsible for his spiritual welfare"
- (of a person) not concerned with material values or pursuits.
- 2. of or relating to religion or religious belief. "the tribe's spiritual leader" noun
- 1.

Or will things be the same as they are today?

What my mother should have done.
by LovelyEunie inthis is somewhat of a rant but every time i think of it it just pisses me off.. .
i never understood why my mom would never switch to another hall or whatever when she knew how i was treated by the people who were supposedly the 'best' association around.
my older sister also, because neither of us really had any jw friends because for whatever reason i guess we were pegged as the baddies because our dad wasn't witness (still isn't) and my mother stayed sick a lot so she wasn't able to do half of whatever was required.. .

It was prohibited to switch halls for personality conflicts.
Besides, doing so would have deprived her of what sounds like the main thing she gets from being a dub--a gossipy, judgy, petty social network. It sounds like that meets some emotional need of hers.
Parents were brainwashed repeatedly to regard children as animals who just need a good beating and deprivation of fun to learn that life is unpleasant and Jah offers the only hope that the future will be less unpleasant.Children are basically one step above pigs in that religion. As a lower form of life, your emotional needs did not come first.
I'm sorry but I don't like your mother very much.

HOW CAN WOMEN BE ANNOINTED BUT NO PRIVELAGES IN HALL?
by NoMoreHustle ini had listened to the degrading talk by gb heard (on women) & watched a video on evie bklyn channel & there was alot of interesting questions that are raised.. i had always wondered why can't women in the hall handle mics or run magazine counter etc.?
but they (if annointed) will rule in heaven with jesus.
that is a pretty heavy responsibility to help jesus rule millions of people on earth, but yet they can't pass a mic or even run the sound system in the kh.

Thank you Brother DATA-DOG for that proper counsel at the proper time. Unfortunately, before reading your post, this evening I arrogantly turned on some audiovisual equipment (tv) myself without my husband's help. I will pray for help in being more humble and subjective. Now back to the kitchen.
