i just found out that , on my wife's side of the family, the last witness kid has given up!.
he was the very last one in that half of our extended witness family.
ten years ago, i never would have.
I could just look around and see that none of them were going to last in there--someday they will all be gone--either that or they will kill themselves--it was that bad...
Wow. I wouldn't have guessed it was like that... as in that bad.
Perhaps I should vow to destroy this destructive cult. It would be a life-long process and would require a lot research (plus more Greek, uggghhh). I think it would be worth it in the end though.

and let them turn around and give up this terrrible game.

No academic would take such a work seriously. Ever notice how they don't really properly reference things except for their own works? It always pissed the hell out of me.
my roman catholic aunt has been a "devout" catholic for over 30 years and when the pope recently became ill she told me that god would not allow the pope to die but would take him directly to heaven because the pope is sinless.
i am not familar with catholic doctrines so i was caught off guard with my aunt but for any posters out there that were devout catholics like my aunt do catholics really believe that the pope is without sin and cannot die?
Even as a child I knew there was nothing superhuman about him and that he was not favored by God in any way.
That's what Catholic doctrine teaches. There is nothing superhuman about the Pope and man cannot know if God favours him or not. There have been of bad popes, like Pope Alexander VI who had papal concubines and was reputed to turn the Basilica of the Holy Saviour (now St. John Lateran) into a brothel. The belief is that the Holy Spirit prevents the Pope from making doctrinal error in statements that would be considered infallible. One "example" of this would be when Pope Sixtus (I think it was the V) was about to promulgate an extremely flawed version of the Vulgate and he died the day before he was about to do this (perhaps he was assasinated, but this is my speculation and I don't know any historians who think this).
The real problem is that most Catholics don't know enough about their own faith, which makes them easy pickings for JWs. The blame for this probably lies on the bishops for not properly overseeing the catechesis of the laity.

When Pope Pius XII (Eugenio Pacelli) was the Vatican Secretary of state he said at Lourdes that the Nazis "are in reality only miserable plagiarists who dress up old errors with new tinsel. It does not make any difference whether they flock to the banners of social revolution, whether they are guided by a false concept of the world and of life, or whether they are possessed by the superstition of a race and blood cult." (Pius XII and the Holocaust). He also was instrumental in saving many Jews in Italy from being deported to concentration by having the Vatican issue thousands of false documents that identified Jews and Christians. He also hid thousands more in churches and even in papal residences so that they would not be found by the Germans (as you must know from being Italian, the Facists in Italy were more concerned with socialists and communists than they were with persecuting Jews).
He also convinced the ruler of Hungary to stop the deportation of 800,000 Jewish people in June 1944. Certainly, there have been many people who were horrible and who were Catholics and in positions of power -- this can be seen as true in all institutions. There have been bad rulers of the Church and there have been good ones.

at the circuit assembly, there is always a part on the program where the co gives specific counsel needed in the circuit.
often this was rather droll, but at times some interesting 'foolishness' became obvious.
one i remember was a co that spent about 5 minutes deriding one elder (whom he did not name of course) for spending a saturday arranging the icons on his computer [this must have been 10 years ago when windows 3.1 was still the rage].

There was one old dude that always wanted us to sing really loudly and was never pleased with our efforts... he had a point about our listless singing, I suppose, but I blame the lack of joy and the terrible song selection - it was like they were TRYING to bore us musically.
My old congregation always got kudoi for singing well. What we got heck for was the usual: falling meeting attendance and falling fields service hours. Whenever I heard a CO or elder complaining about FS time, it made me thing "where does it say in the bible to fill out forms and peddle magazines for a certain amount of time?" It is the most hypocritical, extreme sola scriptura sect that I've ever seen.

There are certain foods that you need to stay away from like meat. Kings and nobility usually got gout because they ate meat so much of the time. There are also certain types of seafood too.
