I was baptized when I was 15. All my friends and relatives were baptized 2 years before. I was the only one in the group that wasn't baptized. I started hearing comments like, "you won't be considered good association if you aren't baptized", "what if Armageddon comes and you're not baptized", "you won't find a brother to marry you if you're not baptized". I was a good little Witness girl but I definitely felt the pressure. If I hadn't of been pressured I doubt I would have done it that young. After I was baptized I started crying uncontrollably. I don't if it was the reality of the huge commitment I just made finally hitting me or because I felt closer to God. I don't know. All I do know is that I desperately needed a hug and all I got was cold stares. My own mother looked at me like she was embarrassed by my outburst. Another thing I remember, my cousin and my best friend both received gold bracelets with their names and baptism date engraved on them when they got dunked. I really liked the bracelets and was fully expecting to get one. When my day came I didn't get a bracelet, a present, a card or anything. I was pissed!!!

My JW sister wants her mom and siblings to pay for HER retirement!
by Who are you? inkind of long...thanks in advance for letting me vent!.
my sister has been a jw since 1974. she's been waiting for the end of this "system of things" since the fall of 1975. she never went to college.
she has had probably 80 or more jobs since 1974. she has no retirement savings.

My brother tried something similar. He claimed that he had to quit his job and care for my elderly grandparents 24/7. I lived out of state and was in a bad financial situation at the time so i wasn't able to travel to check on the situation. Every time I spoke to him he was telling me about all the hard work he was doing, blah, blah, blah. He even tried to get me to agree to give him a portion of my inheritance to pay him back for caring for my grandparents. Thank God we never ended up working out a deal. When I finally made it up to see my grandparents I found them living in filthy, deplorable conditions. I stayed up the whole first night I was there just cleaning the place. It broke my heart because my grandmother was always such a clean person. My brother had been spending their money and since he had power of attorney there was nothing I could do. I went off on him and then he went on a campaign against me. He told everyone I was an apostate (I wasn't at the time) and told bunch of other lies about me. My mother sided with my brother, she couldn't believe that her little pioneer son would ever do anything bad. My JW in-laws heard all the gossip and took my brother's side because he was a devout JW and was inactive. I haven't spoken to my mother or brother since that day. I'm just so disgusted with both of them. To treat the elderly that way is just so inhuman.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I grew up in the northeast so the winter won't bother me that much. Honestly I think it's getting too hot in Florida.
Oakville's not too far from me.......maybe we can get together when you move up here.
Sounds great! Oakville/Toronto apostafest anyone?
But you will be surrounded by Jdubs
No kidding. We started making jokes about there being a KH on every corner in Canada. We went for a scenic drive today and ended up passing the Canada bethel. It looked like a nice property and there were some nice sized homes. I wonder who lives in them?
I live in Prince Edward Island.
One of my favorite places! I was a big fan of the Anne of Green Gables series and I got to visit there when I was a kid. My husband and I have that on our list of places to see.
Your one hour away from Me Waterloo!!!
We were just near there today! My husband's boss lives there and he kept telling us to check out the area.
If the dubs Dew Drop In just tell them the Bible says we are not to even say a greeting to those who bring another Gospela nd shut the door.
Hehe. I'll probably just pretend to be interested long enough to plant a few seeds.

Who was the biggest cheapskate that you knew in the Truff?
by JK666 inmy sister, what a joke!!!
she and her tight arse husband would drive out in service in the winter, but would not use the heater in the car because they thought it would take more gas!!!
i could go on, but what is the point!

The worst cheapskate I ever heard of was the elder who thought that his dining companions had left too big of a tip for the waitress so he would sneak back to the table after everyone left and help himself to the money.

It's official, we will be moving to the Toronto area within the next month or so.
My husband was offered an incredible job in Canada so we flew up here to check it out. We totally fell in love with the place. Beautiful parks, friendly people, great food, taxes are a bit high but, I guess you can't have everything.
We have a deal in the works to move into at a house in Oakville. It's beautiful, right across from the Lake, a nice yard with big trees and lots a birds, hardwood floors, a finished basement, jacuzzi tub in the master bath, rec room and a hot tub. I just love it. The only downside is that it's right near a Kingdom hall. I swear, they ruin everything.
I have been through a year of hell after leaving the JWs and I finally feel like things are finally looking up. We will be far away from our JW relatives and all their drama. It feels like a new beginning.
We will be flying back on Wednesday to start packing. I can't wait!

Thanks for sharing your story. Your mother sounds like a amazing and courageous woman. It's amazing that she went through so much pain and still was able to love as much as she did. I agree with Mouthy, I'm sure she is in a better place. You are lucky to have had someone so wonderful in your life.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve.

Lets keep the "X" in X-Mas!!!
by GetBusyLiving inhow do you feel about some christians getting all hot and bothered about "keeping christ in christmas"?
last time i checked most people just do the holiday because their kids get excited, they have some time off to hang out with friends and family, and getting wasted becomes socially acceptable.. gbl.

As a Christian, I choose to spend my time helping the poor and needy rather than get into endless debates over trivial matters such as this. If the so-called Christians of this world follow Jesus' example instead of getting bogged down over pointless issues like this, the world would be a much better place.

JW dress fads
by rassillon ini was just looking at the revelation book and some of the illustrations reminded me of some of the dress fads which i have seen growing up as a jw.
what fads did you see at the halls?.
the one that got me to thinking was the sun dress on page 51. .

When you say sundress are you referring to the woman in the middle wearing the red muumuu looking thing? That's an ugly dress.
I usually think of sundresses as looking something like this (she's pregnant but you get the idea)
I think the picture in the bottom right is a perfect representation of a JW family. Mandatory big hair on the ladies. All the clothes are modest and not a hint of a worldly fad. The wife and daughters always have a big, unnatural smile and the husbands always look uncomfortable and trapped. That brown suit and ugly stripe tie must be some sort of requirement for JW males, I've seen the same suit on every JW guy I know.
