JWD - Five years old and still going strong !

as a jehovah's witness growing up, i would have done all kinds of
things that 'jehovah's representatives here on earth' might have told
me to do. you want me to do the "mics" brother? great! do you want me
to knock on some doors? let's go tell 'em! do you want me to lay some
bricks for the new kingdom hall? i'll be there on saturday afternoon,
after the field service, of course.
so far, so bad.
but there was background noise, audible only sometimes ? what if we
were asked to do something unusual, something.....controversial? would
we be jehovah's loyal servants?
well i was never asked by the elders to fire bomb the local
pentecostal church (or whatever), but the best young witnesses
understood that just because it hadn't recently been part of the
pattern, didn't mean that we could preclude the possibility that it
might become so in future. jehovah had a history of getting his peons
to do his dirty work ? the temple wouldn't have come down had samson
not been there, the ark didn't build itself prior to the flood ? and
one should prepare for all kinds of challenges as the last days of
this wicked system drew to a close. i had the mentality to make the
carrying out of such a suggestion a possibility. this is how i would
have rationalised it;
1, it's the right thing to do. i know it is because this
magazine/elder/whatever says so, and this means it has jehovah's
backing.
2, armageddon is coming, these people are going to die anyway, if
for some reason god should choose me, a small fry loyal servant, to help in
the task of wiping out satan's followers, what difference will it make
to anybody whether jehovah kills the worldly one himself, or whether i
do, at his instruction? and.....
3, why should my tiny brain's lack of understanding of this choice
be an impediment to the carrying out of an act that, at the highest
possible level (jehovah's thoughts), is considered righteous?
4, if i refuse to do it, i will be slaughtered by the almighty.
5, if i'm so killed, i'll never get to see paradise, and live in it
with my sweetheart forever.i see the pityful sight of the suicide bombers and i get angry along
with many of the rest of us. but then, i step back a little and say,
"there, but for the grace of the devil, go i."

polish karol joseph wojtyla, who was to become pope john paul 2, was forced, following the closure by the nazis of his university in poland, to study theology underground if he wanted to study it at all. do remember that hitler publicly swore to exterminate the polish race before he publicly swore to do the same to the jews.
wojtyla was a prominant polish church figure after 'our' ww2 ended (hostilities were vehemently prosecuted long after 1945 in eastern europe) and was appointed chair of ethics at lublin (!!!!! ever heard of the lublin committee? walls have memories) in 1956.
i have really only scratched the surface. when one thinks of the experience of the polish people during & after ww2 - life with the gestapo & with the nkvd etc etc - and pertaining to the man himself, the fact that jp2 lost much of his family, many of his jewish/polish friends, barely escaped deportation himself, was used as forced labor in a quarry etc etc, one might forgive a part time admirer of his for personalising his battles.
none of this alters the fact that he has often been a right twit when it has suited him, and this part time admirer isn't slow to acknowledge that!

My thoughts on hating the WTS.
by kwintestal in" i was thinking today about hating the wts, and you know i really do, and for many reasons which i won't really get into here.. on this thought, i imagined the jwd (jesus' wacky discussion forum) website of 2000 years ago.
i'm sure many of jesus' new followers would start threads about having their hands cut off, being stoned and the secret backroom shenanigans of the pharisees.
all there is, is hate here!
