this is a must-read that, hopefully, will stay an "active topic" for all seekers and lurkers, by bumping it to the top as often as possible.
alan wrote it in randys {dogpatch} thread regarding knocking.org documentary and in reply to the email mr. engardio sent to barbara anderson.
however, it is so vital a read that it indeed needs its own thread:.

at least the rural folk had the green and blue they had always known, their fall cushioned by the dewy grass, onlookers nothing but nature itself.
there is a kind of fulfillment to go that way, to die as one lived, the soil's fool, in the softness that humanity craves at the end.
the city dwellers had no such comfort at the last; their end would be filthy and harsh, we knew it, we who had seen the wickedness that their spaces had bred.

i have been thinking about this because of another post where the question asks have any of us ever been blackmailed to stay in the watchtower organization.. no, i won't say i was blackmailed; however, after i wrote my note of disassociation, the congregation overseer wanted to visit me in my home with two other elders.
i repeatedly said no, that i would not allow them to chastise me in my own home.
therefore, all of my conversations were over the phone with the overseer.
: Has anyone else had this said to them?
yes, i insisted to an elder that he should spell out unadorned what would happen to me if i refused to become a jehovah's witness. eventually, after much effort on my part to cut throught the bullshit, and after much sweating on his part, he told me that jehovah would have to kill me.
they don't usually like to be forced on that one, and i'm surprised to hear that an elder volunteered this little gem to you. perhaps he felt safe saying it on the phone, rather than saying it direct to your face.
was it really so peaceful before 1914?.
the society loves to claim there was an unprecedented amount of peace prior to 1914 and that wwi was a complete shock to the world when it began.
yet history claims otherwise:.
: It could be that not having the instant access to news and the ability to easily travel to almost any part of the globe that we have today caused those people who lived in lands not engaged in war to think that things were generally pretty good.......or maybe I'm just dredging up remanants of Watchtower propaganda.
i fear that's exactly what you're doing! those old wts verities just don't want to die do they lol.
the bulgarian horrors, the armenian massacres, the macedonian (ho-hum) "question" (is that what you call it when crowds get butchered?), load of skurmishes and no shortage of full scale wars were endlessly and graphically reported on during the late nineteenth century and turn of the twentieth, in widely available publications all over the world. there could have been no excuse for not knowing about these things.

first of all, a message for watchtower society monitors: hi guys, since i'm a little rebellious, and people offering advice to me on this thread are probably equally so, you may like to come here often to see what we're up to.
fine, but don't forget to check this out, because this is where you really should be.. now, to all,.
hi, it's been a while since i posted here, can anybody post a link to a site that deals well, in laymans' english, with copyright law, given that i am living in england and wanting to put wts publications up on my website.
hmm, its a little depressing (but not tooooo depressing!) that copyright applies at all, where the publisher is guaranteed never to publish the material again, and is probably dying to prevent it ever resurfacing! its not as if they'll ever try to make a profit from, say, "babylon the great has fallen" ever again.....
i'll keep looking into this. meantime, thanks all, for your help

many thanks for any help anybody can offer!

2 thess 2 contains a cryptic reference to a "man of lawlessness" and something or someone that is "restraining".
first to be noted is that the section appears to some to have been styled after typical jewish and early christian apocalyptic scenario wherein an epic and protracted struggle of the messiah (christ) and his archnemesis (antichrist), including the idea that the antichrist figure would have a brief period of success in leading men away then to be crushed in a final decisive battle.
it is suggested from the wording (and dissimilar style) found in 2 thess 2 that the author was drawing from some such pre-existing apocalyse now lost to us.
