Welcome to the board Tetrapod. I give you much credit for taking your stand so firmly. It's not easy to lose one's friends and family in one fell swoop. I hope you enjoy our board and I look forward to your comments.

May KM, You've got to read this
by doinmypart inthe may 2005 km (us branch version) is a bunch of tripe.. in the first article, jehovah's day is near, the writers are feeding the r&f more gloom-and-doom-the-end-is-near.
the 3rd family article is family schedule-family field service.
the 4th family article is family schedule-the family study.

AAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!
This KM will cause me a major headache.
May is going to be a tough month for me and I suspect many other faders as well. I know we mention that the society does very little to retain their youth, but when they give very specific instruction like it sounds this KM does it makes the good jw mate frustrated, angry and super-dub like.
Fear
Obligation
Guilt

Living with Soundness of Mind in an Electronic Age - KM Part this week
by ezekiel3 inlooks like it is time to remind the flock that jwd is deathdealing.
this week service meetings are recycling old kingdom ministry articles regarding the danger of electronic communication such as the internet and email.. .
like i heard at a recent circuit assembly, "don't let your mouse turn you into a rat!".

Our meeting was pretty boring. The brother with the part stuck right to the cited information. I think he might have been sleeping at some points during the part.
The only interesting statement came from a sister (pioneer mind you): "I've heard there is a website that has all the society's old literature on it so apostates can study up on us" - insert appropriate audience gasp here.
She must have been referring to the quotes website. I wanted to raise my hand and ask what is wrong with someone studying up on witnesses using old literature. Are we ashamed? Isn't our purpose get people to study using our literature? All literature eventually gets old!
Oh well, my guess is she knows more than she is saying.

Oh my god!! Are you saying that the trinity is right? My belief system is shattered; I feel as if I'm in FOG. Please say it isn't so.
And please do so with some paragraphs next time.

Would you share a winning lottery ticket???..help please
by morty inok, so here is the situation...... yesterday, i had bought a scratch ticket and i won 20.00 bucks on it...i was heading back to the store to cash it in but, not all of it...i wanted $17.00 in cash and in addition i wanted another ticket..as i was heading out the door, my brother asked to come with me to grab a few things at the store as well...this was not a problem....he got into the van and we headed off to the store...once we arrived to the store, i was still smoking my cigarette so i asked my brother to cash in my ticket for me and grab me another ticket and my $17.00 bucks while i wait in the car.
he said "sure, no problem"...at the same time, he asked me for a loan of $10.00 bucks.
i gave him the money with no questions asked.

What are you talking about? That was my ticket I dropped it on the counter and forgot to pick it up. You owe me $250 plus my gas mileage.
Don't share half. It was your money - $50 bucks is generous.
I buy lottery tickets because I always thought Satan would want me to win big to put Jehovah's name in a bad light. Hasn't worked yet.

I just wanted to say thank you to Winston Smith for all the fantastic posts he's made over the last year and a half. For anyone who is new to the board or if you're just beginning to lurk you simply must check out his topics.
Winston updated us on his situation in life with clarity and feeling. He is the poster that really made me realize I was in a cult. I promised myself that whenever things are tough at home or if I'm feeling down about my fade that I would re-read his topics. I spent the morning doing that and it really helped.
Again, if you weren't on the board then (or lurking like me) please go back and check Winston's topics out. He really discusses his situation in a step by step format and you can get a real sense of how your spouse, the elders and your spouses's jw support network works.
I know that you don't post as much anymore and that in a lot of ways you've moved on, but I wanted to thank you for all you did. Your posts have done more good than you will ever know.

Update to Shawn's story
by Shawn inwell here is todays update.
we cannot be friends.
came over today and said that she needs this to be .

Shawn, you've gotten some really good advice on the board. I also suggest letting her be for a couple weeks and then sending a nice card. Once someone totally commits to the WTS they slowly begin to view "worldly" in generalities. Sure there may be a couple of nice ones, but the majority are wicked and evil. By taking a smaller role but still being supportive to her she will hopefully come around to view your friendship as important again. Whenever someone is first converted they get very zealous and want to do everything exactly right and tell everyone everything they've learned so far. That period lasts about 1-2 years (it's different for everybody). Keep in touch with her from time to time during that period and show her you are a good sincere caring individual and you may be able to have some of your friendship back when she settles down and becomes a more relaxed JW.

Who's Counting "hours"?.... look again!
by upside/down inone time while out in service we saw some mormon's working the same territory.. the inevitable put-down comment was made that "they" only put in two years of "missionary" work in, then their church helps them financially to get "set" in the business world (bastards!).
unlike "us" (the dubs) who slave for the lord our whole life.
and get nothing (in this life).. so i started to do the math... if you just go strictly by "witness" standards of weights and measurements (counting "time"), here's what i came up with:.

The fact that there is no efficiency in the dub preaching effort. The fact that the society discourages anyone from having a website, even if it is for the sole purpose of preaching to others, the fact that the society discourages message boards for communicating to each other or preaching all irritates me.
Dubs are constantly amazed that there are many many people that haven't heard of them or have no idea about what they believe. A lot of people have heard the name but only in connection with jokes or service or blood. The society has done a terrible job of getting god's word out in the last days.
If the real intent of the preaching work were to reach as many people as possible they'd revamp the entire thing. They would hold periodic pioneer schools for everyone one of the publishers. The simple fact that the pioneers can't share their pioneer school book with the friends in their hall should tell people that it's about creating an atmosphere of sacredness not of preaching to others. Pioneers should be dying to share that book so everyone's service would improve. Same thing with keepign the District convention releases a secret until your specific weekend. If something comes out that is going to benefit the friends in service, get it out! don't sit back and wait until your weekend. Again, it emphasizes secretness and sacredness not preaching to others.
Oh my I think I've ranted.
