Welcome. It sounds like you're the last one in the family to make the decision to leave. If you have extended family still in you may want to tread carefully. If not then go for it. Enjoy yourself and your family. Sounds like you have a nice healthy family. Good for you.

What the C/O overseer said
by NoAnswers inon the brothers last talk he was talking about how we should be good host.
like abbrahan was to the angels anyways..... he went on saying that some brothers in other countries have the elders deal with their financial neeeds it sounded that they give the money to them and they share it among the congrecation.
he then went on saying that if the governing body would ask us in this country to do that what would we do ?

I would love the society to start the mormon 10% thing. I would love for them to ask for tax returns and pay stubs. That might just cause one or two brains to turn on and get out. For those that obey the instructions they'll get what they want - someone to tell them everything to do without thinking. Something like that might even make my family wince. I think the comment alone would make many cringe.

change to Special Assy. Days, CA's and DC's
by TheListener ini have been thinking about this for some time.
i have been thinking how the society could maintain the same number of yearly obligations but lower their costs.
i could see the society making some changes to the assembly/convention setup in the near future to cut costs.

Gary, I agree with you about the media coverage. That is a large reason why the DC may never go away. It may be in the near future however that they cancel the Friday session since the attendance is so low. Perhaps they would save money by using the stadiums one less day. It would be interesting if they returned to the days of large DCs and not the medium one like we have now. Back in the day most conventions (that I remember) had 30k - 50k in attendance. They were massive events. Now the average seems to be around 10k - 15k. Much smaller. By increasing the number of delegate at a convention site they could generate more media and hold a fewer number of DCs around the country. Perhaps it would be cheaper to gather up 3 smaller venues into one large venue?

JW False Teachings About Roman Catholics
by rebel8 inapologies if this has been done before.... .
when i left the troof, i happened to learn many of the things i had been taught about rcs were lies.
i thought it would be interesting to see how many jw false teachings about rcs we can list.

Good topic. Do RC believe that the earth will ever be inhabited after the rapture and judgement day? Do any religions? I've wondered about this for some time and have had difficulty finding answers.

"How Do We Know the End if Near?"
by Bonnie_Clyde inthat was the talk yesterday.
the speaker started by asking for a "show of hands" of who thought the end was very near?
i was sitting in the back row and believe i was the only one who didn't raise my hand.

Bonnie,
Interesting talk huh? The society has slowly removed most of the signposts for the end being near over the last 15 years. The biggest one being the age of the generation that saw 1914. Even the article that came out a couple years ago in the Awake mag. that changed the WTS stance on earthquakes in on place after another being a sign of the end. I believe is was a Nov magazine. I'll search the CD later. Most witnesses seem content to believe things are bad but could get much worse so the end may be a little ways off yet. The society needs a new stick and carrot.

What are some Bible contradictions that JWs can't reconcile?
by marked ini remember reading in the reasoning book about how to approach someone at the door who said the bible was full of contradictions.
one of the answers was "many say the bible's full of contradictions but no one's been able to show me an example of one.".
so, what are some examples that jws would have no real canned answer to?.

The Puritans received their name from their belief that the Anglican church wasn't 'pure' enough.

Letter to my Elder Uncle
by Lehaa inthis is the letter i just recently sent to my uncle.
he replied
its not hypocritical.

Lehaa, I'm so sorry that you must endure the ill treatment of close family on top of everything else you've experienced. The treatment toward disfellowshipped family members is especially upsetting to me. I've been on the same side of the fence as your uncle and it isn't easy either. The society's rules and regulations cause harm to everyone involved.
I really have empathy for you.
