In some countries it was a much bigger than in the US, like the Philippines, and other countries it wasn't a bit deal at all, like Italy. I've got the graphs that show this.

1975 - JWs in other countries, not just the U.S. also knew about the prediction
by deegee ini have been wondering, if the 1975 prediction was just a rumour started by the rank & file as the wt claims, then how did jws in other countries, a part from the u.s., also come to know about the prediction?.
i started studying with the jws during the 80s when i was a child.
while attending one of my first meetings during that time, a brother commented during the wt study that armageddon did not come in 1975 because it was not known how many years after adam, eve was created.. at the time, i hadn't a clue what the guy was talking about.

I predicted here 9 years ago that WT would stop physical publication. That was just on the basis of what Christian Scientists were doing, before I realised WT is in such a terrible position financially, before tablets and readers became popular, and when I thought books would go into terminal decline.

1. Are we sure this letter is real? We had a "fake news" letter posted a few weeks ago I beileive. So how can we tell the difference?
2. Even if it's fake, it's probably true - in the long run. Because that's the logical progression.
3. Is it feasible that the Society could stop all physical book and magazine production? And maybe evenoutsource the printing of Bibles.
4. In that case, if they printed nothing at all, how many personnel could they cut back, how many branches and how many bethelites would be left?
Is this restructuring putting them on a steady financial basis, or are we witnessing the chaotic disintegration of the organisation here?

They don't seem to realise that the less they produce the less they will receive in donations in a downward spiral. It's as if they think people are going to keep on donating anyway. A misapprehension you'd think the last two decades would have thoroughly disabused them of.

But two years ago, he was disfellowshipped after he missed a Jehovah's Witness memorial service - seen in the religion as an important event.

I can see how it happened. This person probably had doubts, started expressing them to family and friends, and it was bubbling away for a while. Then he missed the memorial, it brought things to a head and the elders confronted him. So it was probably part of a complicated story.
The BBC presentation of the situation that he was DFed "after he missed a memorial service" is pretty abysmal whatever way you look at it. Members of the public are going to think it was a funeral service and JWs are going to think it's a load of rubbish.
