It's easy to forget just how publicly moralistic and self-righteous Catholic leaders were until very recently. How they blamed homosexuals and TV and liberals for every bad thing in the world and acted like they themselves could do no wrong. I guess it's the abuse scandals rather than a genuine change of heart that shut them up.

It was an is a very popular book and I imagine somewhat profitable. I would guess the total printing was in the tens of thousands at least. I bought a few hundred and I didn't get the impression it was a big order for him.

Mother Theresa was a saint as much as Christopher Hitchens was an intellectual.
i still go to the meetings because of my in wife and it came about that the elders knew of my pissed off attitude about the society getting involved in the un.
so the elders said they could help me get over that and wanted to meet with me.
now just to let you know, i have only told my wife and her mom so far about it, that's it.
You may believe, and they may have told you they are meeting with you to discuss the UN involvement. But the likelihood is the only item on the agenda of the meeting is your ideological purity and commitment to the governing body. Don't expect them to be interested in you or your ideas and you won't be disappointed.

does anybody remember some of the sensational demon stories jw's would tell back in the day?
i was a kid in the early 80's and i remember a few times hearing of people having real life encounters with demons.
for example, one sister claimed that before she became a jdub she would regularly talk to demons and they would even fix stuff like her washing machine!
Yes when I was young JWs talked a lot about demons invading your life. Not so much now. I wonder what made the difference. Maybe it's just part of the wider trend of secularization of society, from which JWs are not entirely immune.
