Was Mother Theresa a fraud? Is the pope a catholic?
Mother Theresa was a saint as much as Christopher Hitchens was an intellectual.
i often comment in threads that interest me on this forum.
moreover, some of you may know that i study the history of early christianity.
i once wrote an extensive comment on the historicity of jesus' existence in one of the threads.

i still go to the meetings because of my in wife and it came about that the elders knew of my pissed off attitude about the society getting involved in the un.
so the elders said they could help me get over that and wanted to meet with me.
now just to let you know, i have only told my wife and her mom so far about it, that's it.
You may believe, and they may have told you they are meeting with you to discuss the UN involvement. But the likelihood is the only item on the agenda of the meeting is your ideological purity and commitment to the governing body. Don't expect them to be interested in you or your ideas and you won't be disappointed.
or do we give in to social constructivism?
to relativity?
or is there a way to be real and then to say whats real that everyone agrees to?.
Why "give in" to social constructionism?
All knowledge is situated in context, this is what I've come to realise.

does anybody remember some of the sensational demon stories jw's would tell back in the day?
i was a kid in the early 80's and i remember a few times hearing of people having real life encounters with demons.
for example, one sister claimed that before she became a jdub she would regularly talk to demons and they would even fix stuff like her washing machine!
Yes when I was young JWs talked a lot about demons invading your life. Not so much now. I wonder what made the difference. Maybe it's just part of the wider trend of secularization of society, from which JWs are not entirely immune.
at the meeting last night, at the annoucments at end of meeting they said make sure u take your ped card.
i said to myself what is a ped card?
blood cards are back.
No what's that?
jehovah's witnesses post 'anti-gay' 'harness your habits' leaflet in north devon.
devon and cornwall police have said a leaflet posted through doors in north devon isn't a crime – despite it advising gay people to "control their urges".the leaflet, entitled "how to harness your habits", was distributed in north devon by jehovah's witnesses and contains an article asking "what does the bible say about homosexuality?
"in it, the religious group states that "rejecting homosexuality" is completely different to "rejecting people of a different skin colour" and says their views are the same as people who "view smoking as harmful and even repugnant".it also compares gay people to animals, but says "unlike animals, they can choose not to act on their impulses".the journal was contacted by a reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, who felt "belittled" by the leaflet.
How on earth does it follow that if something is based on the Bible it can't be hateful or unlawful? It seems perfectly obvious to me that the leaflet is both able based and hateful. These are by no means mutually exclusive.
Suppose a church banned disabled people from attendance and quoted Leviticus 21:18-22. That would be okay because it's Bible based?

Why would eelders have a list of medications?
Someone on the forum sent me a copy of the infamous "allogeneic" blood card from around 2000. I really appreciate it and will keep it safe.
i am posting a second topic on this subject since the first one became overrun by snakes.. cofty posted a link to a published paper discussing this topic and referred to the information in it as "facts".
here is my summary of that paper along with comments on it.. one of the opening statements says that:.
two frequently debated aspects of hominin evolution are the development of upright bipedal stance and reduction in body hair.. so for those who believe this is a stupid topic, it is a subject of interest to many stupid people including the authors of the paper referred to by cofty.
at the moment i dont beleive in anything.
im pretty much an open book, but my critical mind is very alert to bullshit.
but anyway i decided to re-read the bible with a non jw filter.. i researched online first which is supposed to be the best translation out there.
I like to read books translated and presented individually including long introductions and footnotes. I especially like Robert Alter's translation of Genesis, The Song of Solomon by Ariel Bloch and The Book of Job by Raymond Scheindlin.
Robert Alter in particular points out all the words and phrases that are repeated in similar stories and themes that recur that may be missed in other translations.
Plus reading the book of Job as a book in its own right without canonical contextual baggage makes it much more interesting.
And non-religious renderings of the Song of Songs are much clearer about the erotic language used.
