What were the Bible Students expecting in 1914, after all?
by EdenOne inskimming through old watch towers, i encountered this statements on the 1914 january 1st edition of the watch tower (vol.
xxxv, p.5373), in the article "views from the watchtower":.
"so far as our judgement goes, the year 1914 is the last of what the bible terms "gentile times" [...] the end of their "times" marks the date for the beginning of messias' kingdom, which the bible declares is to be ushered in with a great time of trouble, just such as we see impending.

Eden the situation as I understand it is this:
Russell for decades predicted that 1914 would mark the end of the time of trouble and the start of kingdom rule on earth.
However as 1914 grew closer this prediction appeared increasingly untenable. Time was running out. Therefore Russell switched his prediction to stating that 1914 would mark the beginning of the time of trouble and kingdom conditions would follow shortly after.
Therefore the quote you have found was from the period when Russell was already backtracking as regards what he predicted would take place in 1914.

How do you deal with depression?
by BlackWolf ini'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.
ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.
my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

I am so disgusted with parents who would treat their child like that. I hope you have people who care for you no matter what and you spend time with them instead.

My Issue With the Kingdom Melodies

My issue with Kingdom Melodies is if you play them backward at twice the speed there's a message about Satan. Hear that catchy tune and you'll never want to go back to regular. The devil has the best tunes.
Plus when I had IBS the song "Around the earth with urgency" took on a whole different meaning.

What happened to Marvin Schilmer and his Blog against the JW's?

One of the really interesting blog posts Marvin made was about an altered blood card that was issued in 2000(?) that allowed for autologous blood transfusion. But the policy was reversed within months and the cards destroyed. A really important story I thought, with pictures and letters and everything. -

Here's a view on homosexuality for you...
by konceptual99 in...right from a pro-jw site in response to a post about the relative seriousness of homosexuality.
all you can do is reason from the scriptures, which you appear to have done.
homosexuality is as serious as bestiality, or adultery and fornication.

A homosexual worked in a store that helped my wife test and purchase some products. The honest truth, he was one of the nicest people I met. We talked and I was fine with that. Again, treating him well, does not endorse the behavior. I don't have to make it my focus. It is not my concern.
The idea that what others do in private requires or is any way interested in your "endorsement" is not only bizarre. It's actually what I would call perverted or abhorrent.

Ha! Hope it doesn't come to that. Just because England voted crazy doesn't mean the US needs to raise the stakes.
But George W as president in the 1990s will come as a surprise among others to Bill Clinton.
Incidentally Boris Johnson was born in the United States so may be elgble for the US presidency too.

Far out idea, but a person to ask might be Firpo Carr, who among other things wrote this pretty strange book.

What an interesting idea. But a difficult ask I'd imagine.
I think there was a brief mention of the different ethnic editions of the magazines in the video about Gilead called something like "To the ends of the earth". Maybe something in the Proclaimers book too or some magazine articles. But actually getting a hold of back issues of these different ethic editions. Good luck!
