But don't a lot of these points apply in lots of situations: school, churches, the army, workplace, political parties? It's more a matter of degree.

Can't ban shunning as such, but should at least withdraw charitable status from organisations whose policies promote shunning. Watchtower would clearly fall foul of this as they promote shunning in videos, Watchtowers, organisation books, elders books, elders letters, meeting outlines and more. They could either change their written policies or face sanction. They might attempt to change their written policies while keeping the practice, but that would very difficult to carry out and they would no doubt get caught. -

Joe attends Iglesia Ni Christo church service
by joe134cd inwell i have heard various comments about them on here, so last week i decided to do an internet search on them.
i was quite surprised to find there was an inc in my local area and ironically only meters away from the kh.. it was very interesting to say the least, and in the short time i was there i could quite understand how they get there reputation as a high control religion if not a cult.
in some respects i think they are probably more jw than the jws.. let me explain how my visit went.

Apparently there are meetings in Scotland. I'll need to check this out. ;-)

Interesting I don't think we have any of these churches in Scotland. I have considered attending a closed brethren church, but the issues may be similar, in that it seems they expect you to have an invite. They don't like people just to turn up.
Things I tend to look out for include any literature they have on offer. Plus how involved are women in the service. And find out how the money situation works: it's always interesting to work out who among the congregation is being paid for their work at the church. Especially at Adventist meetings this can be quite interesting to work out who is the paid pastor an who work voluntarily.
Before I attended any other church I had the impression that most conservative churches restricted women as JWs do, but this has not been my experience. In the Mormon church women speak from the platform, say prayers, lead singing. Among the Christadelphians, where the women wear hats on Sunday, women can lead midweek meetings, say prayers and so on. In fact I've not found any group as restrictive in terms of what women can do as JWs. It would be interesting how Iglesia Ni Christo compares.
In particular it's got me to wondering: why are JW women not allowed to offer prayers at the meetings? This is a restriction no other group has that I've visited. Is there a Bible justification for it? They use the scripture that says a woman should not teach the congregation. But prayer isn't supposed to be teaching, is it? I wonder if there's ever been a WT explaining why sisters are not allowed to offer prayers at meetings.

Mormons baptize Holocaust victims and D. Trump grandparents..
by James Mixon inyes the associated press..mormons are posthumously baptizing holocaust victim as well as grandparents of public figures like d. trump, hillary clinton and steve spielberg..i wonder what holocaust victims will think, surprise you are a mormon...i think i will send a request to mormon's headquarter to check to see if c.t russell and any of the past dead gb members were baptized, and make it known to jw community.. it would hilarious to see their (jw) expression, "you know russell was a baptized mormon.....

I thought this was old news and they promised to stop doing it. There was a huge scandal when they baptised Anne Frank, I think. (Or was that Justin Bieber?)
I honestly don't see the problem. I wish they'd just hurry up and baptise every dead person, then no one could single out particular examples. Plus it would mean all dead people get access to heaven, of course, which is pretty cool.

They are on course for disaster already. In fact it's already begun by the looks of it. A few months ago I made a thread explaining some of the reasons which was very persuasive and comprehensive. (My secretary Morph can provide the links)
If WT stopped shunning this might save the organisation. Along with other measures they could implement and become a humane, truthful, thriving organisation. I am available to the organisation for consultation with appropriate remuneration on this basis.

Why did the Governing Body come behind the curtain?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inin the movie the wizard of oz, while the whole yellow brick road gang was being addressed by the great and powerful wizard of oz, the dog toto ran off to the side, pulled back on a curtain, and showed that a normal-looking humbug of a person was operating cranks and levers.
for a short while, the normal-looking man kept yanking levers and cranking cranks, and said into the microphone (which made the great and powerful wizard speak the same words) "pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!
i am the great and powerful wiz .

A combinations of reasons. For one the new focus on digital broadcasting meant someone had to front the program. Who if not the governing body? Plus some on the governing body clearly have huge egos, in particular tight pants Tony. Others such as Loesch and Herd seem less eager to be in front of the camera.
But I notice they've cut back severely on their appearances. At first there was a GB member every month, then every second month, then they decided to take December and January off completely. Who knows maybe they'll retreat even further. The one amazing thing about Watchtower cutbacks is they never seem to stop.

You might surprised how many JWs are homosexuals
by Roger Kirkpatrick incontrary to common belief, neither the bible nor the watchtower condemns homosexuality; however, they do condemn the practice of fornication.
homosexuality is same sex attraction whether such attraction is acted upon or not.
leviticus 20:13 describes a man having sexual relations with a man, or the act of fornication.

And 93% identified as heterosexual, while 5% refused to say. And 4.1% of 16-24 year olds identified as gay. So it's a complicated question.
UK government official estimate is 6%.

Not sure if that was a joke. ;-)
But stick it out means: "to continue to the end of a difficult or unpleasant situation"

Around 5% of the population is estimated to be gay. What would surprise me is if JWs were significantly different.
However I do think there are greater incentives for gay JWs to leave these days. Because decades ago mainstream society objected to gay love just as JWs do. So gay JWs might as well have stayed where they were. Nowadays there is a huge gulf between mainstream opinion and JW views on gay love. So the attraction of leaving JWs now is acceptance, freedom and love. No wonder so many gay JWs are leaving these days rather than sticking it out.
