Amazing.
Imagine an election with these results:
Party A 35
Party B 13
Party C 7
Party D 4
Party E 0
Party F 0
Which party Simon, did you describe as getting a "clobbering"?
That's some hefty bias at work right there.
theresa may the british p.m. has called for an election.. the house of commons has to vote tomorrow and have a two-thirds majority to agree and the main opposition parties want it to happen too so it looks pretty certain to go ahead..

i personally would like to see they get the very best but haven't a clue how to do it what are your benevolent words of wisdom, should a person do a deep research on his own a kind of self medication or should they brush up on some psychology,, who should they trust because after you leave you got big trust issues.. i don't know about you but to me it was a real shocker, i was totally into getting their worthless bull shit out of my head.
i choose the self medicate path and did as must research as time would allow,, science was a biggie for me, it was enjoyable learning to get so much bull shit out of my head..
That's understandable. And I agree on a personal level, to some extent. People make their choices and it reveals their character. It's hard to forgive and forget, even if they later change their mind.
What I mean is it would be good in general if JWs stopped the practice of shunning. It wouldn't undo past hurt but it would stop future JWs and former JWs from suffering the same. Surely that's a good thing.

Wether we agree with JWs or not, it would be good for all concerned if JWs stopped shunning, for example. I would hope we would all welcome that change if it happens.
Some people wouldn't welcome any improvement because they want total destruction. (Pretty much a mirror of worst JW instincts, ironically)
I think that's pretty stupid not to wish for positive change. For example a JW religion without shunning would clearly be better than JWs with shunning. And I do think we should welcome any positive change. Isn't that simply a statement of the obvious?
now that the org.
has gone 90% digital, it would seem most people now would rather read a good old fashioned book than a tablet!.
way to show insight oh fearless leaders!.
I was just thinking the same thing.
Just when JWs have switched to tablets, the latest news is that physical book sales are up, and e-books are down.
However I think the Watchtower reduction in printing has more to do with the Swaggart case in the 1990s than with the switch to e-books in the 2010s... taking the longer historical view.

I am not sure it isn't the truth. There are true and untrue things, helpful and unhelpful, like everything else.
I am suspicious of the idea of a "correctional" programme to set the JW mind straight. In many important respects JWs have a clearer idea than many others - about not taking part in wars for example. Or the importance of the divine name, if we want to get theological.
There are good things and bad things about JWs. I hope things improve. I think that's what we should all hope. Not a popular view I know, but there it is.
when i was in, during the 1970s, i would see circuit overseers twice a year.
i think there were two occasions when i saw a district overseer give a talk at the hall.
were eliminated as part of a streamlining process but who the hades has taken on their responsibilities?
Apparently DOs weren't really necessary, so Watchtower abolished them.
But I think the Society will suffer from unintended consequences by abolishing district overseers. DOs didn't really do anything much useful in and of themselves. But I do think the position of DO performed one incredibly important function: if offered all circuit overseers the prospect of promotion to an easier and more prestigious role in the organisation. Even if most COs never became DOs, the idea that one day they might was probably a good incentive for many DOs. With the role of DO abolished there is really not much if any scope for COs to get "promoted" in the organisation, I think this will make the position of CO far less attractive and can't be good for morale.
when i studied as a young adult, it was in one of those congregations.
having viewed the religion as a quaint little band of christians it conpletely dumbfounded me when i was told about such rules as 1 - no beards.
2 - you must wear a suit to meetings and while giving a talk.
Yeah there are strict and relaxed countries too.

"Several exciting activities, many with young children in mind."
Talk about setting up kids for disappointment.
Plus, when did "many" become a subset of "several"?
Is it me or is Watchtower getting dumber?

"Has been especially created" - when "special" just isn't special enough I suppose.
Reminds me of my uncle. His first language isn't English and he puts E in front of every word: we have emeal of echicken and erice we especially cooked for eyou.
the article is now in english.
please let me know what you think.. http://verdadtj.com/atalaya/russell-not-a-freemason.php.
I like that you counter the "proofs" too. i never got round to reading Fritz Springmeyer. Are these really the best arguments he produces in the whole book? Seems pretty thin. I always thought there would be more to it than that, just because of the length of the book.
As "proof" that he was a Freemason, the following statements are generally made:
- He used multiple Masonic Symbols in his publications
- He is buried under a pyramid, which is a Masonic Symbol
- He is buried on or near a Masonic Temple/Center
- He gave a speech in which he mentioned he was a Mason
- The Masons have made a conspiracy to remove his name from the registry because they're ashamed of him.
