  I have read Franz's book (it was a few years ago). I seem to recall from CoC, the Fred Franz was against the committee system (please correct me if I am mistaken).

  I remember my dad (J-Dub P.O.) stating the the Elder arrangement was instituted to bring the local Cong. in synch with Crooklyn.

  At what point in time, do you think, that the gripping control began by the GB on the R&F?

  I realize that there had always been a control issue with the leadership at Crooklyn that has been documented back to C.T. Russell. However, there always seemed to be a level of autonomy for the local elders and the R&F.

  I have thought about it and I can come up with two events that changed the face of the local Cong.

  1. The elimination of the Congregation Servant, and the instituion of the Body of Elders.

  2. The elimination of public talks originally created by the Elders, and intitution of the WT's outlines.

  I would be interested in reading your responses.

  Here We Go Again: The Annual ``Behave! at Conventions" Harangue

  now that the gerontocrats have dispensed with their annual springtime campaign of blustering everyone away from the wine and bread, it's now time to for the yearly decalogue of decorum; an epistle to the clueless.. in the april kingdom ministry the old farts tackle their annual chore of getting their dubbies to somehow behave like normal, thoughtful human beings when let loose on the public away from their kingdom halls.. what do we find on page 5?

  ``reminders" to the rabble not to save seats; not to leave the premises during the noon lunch break, nor to bring booze or large coolers; to tip at least 15% to 20% when dining at restaurants.

  this, i believe is a first; they now feel they have to coach jws on just how much is considered apopropriate by ``worldly" (read ``normal") human beings.

  I think that this year, I'll make a sojourn down to Long Beach and berate the JWs that I see walking about for not following the "gentle chidings" of the Geriatric Body by leaving the DC site. I also think I'll go to the Hometown Buffet, and count how many J-Dubs I see being gluttonous. Perhaps I'll confront them, also.

  The one thing that I was always amazed at was this:

  Are there really that many JW's that that act in such crude & boorish manner?

  The same elements of poor behavior brought up annually has led me to believe that JWs are either:

  A: Totally uncivilizied people with no sense of decorum, or

  B: The GB, in its constant quest for more & more control in the lives of the R&F, keep rehashing the same issues from years ago.

  On other thing, as far as scents & colognes go. Even the workplace is requiring that no one come to work with scents & colognes. The other day at work I was chastised for having a little too heavy of an application of aftershave. Ah, the tyranny of the minority.

  The unofficial English anthem is based on the old heresy that Jesus never died on the cross but came west with Joseph of Aramathea who apparently walked the hills of non-roman Wales (truth often be stranger than fiction).

  Yes, I've heard that also. Most of the conservative scholars I have heard speaking on that subject, relegate those postulations to the British sense of self-importance, and their wish to be a part of Biblical history. Even if it means making up stories out of whole cloth!

  But still, I'll read the book. I am never averse to mind candy.

  we all have been exposed to the watchtower scholars here on jwd.. in reality, these people are nothing more than jw apologists who insist the twisted doctrines spewed out of the mouth of the false prophets in brooklyn, new york are divinely inspired.

  however, the apologists are corrrect in one respect.. .

  many of the scholars quoted and often misquoted by the watchtower bible and tract society in its publications have been divinely inspired.

  I always loved to watch Dr. Gene Scott. He died about a year ago. His wife is now leading the teaching. She's not a bad preacher herself.

  I liked the fact that Scott never took crap from anyone.
