Terry,
If I could be God for a day I would come back.
De 7:8-9

okay, here is your chance to straighten out the entire universe!
just like in the jim carrey movie, bruce almighty, you will be given god's job for a day.
you can control everything, though, unlike him; there is no limit to your power.
Terry,

just about the first elder i ever met (elder a) told me there are no preferences amongst jehovah's witnesses.
"look at elder b, here.
he is a convert, whereas i am a third generation jehovah's witnesses.
dear jgnat, I believe there has been generational pride and preferance since time immorial and that has gotten us to this point in our lives.
michelle.
We might even ask our selves, "Is there a God?"
i used the following quote from mark 9:38-40 in another thread, but thought it might be worthy to have people comment about it in its own thread: .
"john said to him: "teacher, we saw a certain man expeling demons by the use of your name and we tried to prevent him, because he was not accompanying us.
but jesus said: "do not try to prevent him, for there is no one that will do a powerful work on the basis of my name that will quickly be able to revile me, for he that is not against us is for us.
He that is not on my side is against me, and he that does not gather with me scatters.--Matthew 12:30
Anyone that is not promoting kingdom interests(belief in The Heavenly Father) does not gather God's children, he scatters them.
This explaination would reconsile the two passages.

my mother said 'if you can't say anything good about anyone (thing), don't say anything bad'!.
true?
a lot would need to change in our comments and attitudes, surely.. false?
The WBTS has taken the individuals walk with God to a corporate level. They have taken their walk with Jesus and believe they have found the path and they have gotten millions of people to believe that path is the right one. In believing the WBTS the individual has in essence relinquished his right to his own walk with Jesus. After seeing this it is the right of the individual to make a choice. An apostate is someone who:
1. Does not believe there is a True God.
2. Does not love that True God with all their heart, mind and body.
3. Does not love their brother like they love the True God.

jgnat, the cities of refuge were intended to service as a dwelling place for the Hebrews in an era when most of the earth did not recognise that there was a true God. There came a time when Hebrews moved on.
Yes this sight can be likened to a city of refuge, It helps people come to terms with what they have done with their lives. Yes there is a lot of grieving to be done, it hurts to know that you were deceived and may have deceived others but, like the Hebrews, They have to move on and keep walking with God. And if they are unsure of how walking with God is done, Look at Jesus, what would He do?
I'm sorry that I have offended.

logic tells us that the "preaching work" is alot to do about nothing.
knocking on doors when no one is home is a stupid waste of time!
the odds of finding a bible study that gets baptized after leaving a person a tract or magazine has got to be ridiculously low.
All the years (33) since my diapers. It was the conviction of my heart, that I was out there 'marking' people righteously inclined for everlasting life.
Danny you did do your part in "marking people" but not in the way that you thought. If you, for instance, came across a person who was teetering on the fence about the reality of God, your presance on his doorstep may have pushed him off on to the no God side. Please keep in mind that in the end and I mean the real end... He marked himself. In the end, and I mean the real end...if you are God's child, HE does the marking.

Have you seen one time where god took vengence for somebody else?
Satanus,
We are all supposed to be waiting expectantly for just such an event!

In all instances in the Bible God And Jesus let them have it with righteous anger and they called a spade a spade. As humans we have a tentancy to display self righteous anger which is what Jesus was speaking out against. Even when we speak out against WTS do we show how the Society hurt us or do we show how they are corrupting the Word of God? There is a difference. Jesus alway led the Jews back to the Scriptures, He didn't wallow in self-pity. He kept walking in to truth and drawing people to it.
A lesson we could all learn from.
things are what they are.. everything acts according to its nature.. nothing escapes its own nature.. we cannot be other than what we are and our "choices" follow our nature.. consequently, can we not say correctly that free choice is merely our ignorance of the fact that all our actions and choices are predetermined by our nature?.
example: if i offer you dog piss or a dove bar is that really a choice?.
only possible things happen.
I suspect we really don't disagree, because I also think it's futile to fight your nature. Our nature fights back and it seems to me we usually lose, although I can't speak for others really. But we often try, and isn't the thing in us that makes us TRY to go against our natures something we might identify as free will?
that "thing" that is trying to get us to go against our natures is God's spirit in us helping us to make a choice - of our own free will - based on the knowledge that what God's spirit leads us into is good and what our nature leads us into is bad.. we still make the choice.
If you make the correct choice, the correct choice is promised to be easier to make next time because you are (you continue/) to be in tune with God's spirit in us.

i would say 'free choice is a joke & a token gesture' because as humans, in physical bodies, our will can never be free. if my will says i can fly, and i want to fly, so i jump, the reality is gravity, and i will go splat. so i do not consider the choice making that we humans are capeable of as anything more than a token gesture, freedom within a constrained and controlled environment.
We as humans are trapped in a constrained and controlled environment. we can never be free IF CHOICE IS A TOKEN GESTURE illusion is a nicer word than i would use.
we as humans are NOT trapped in a constrained and controlled environment we can be free. IF CHOICE IS A REALLY
who said we have a choice? GOD
who said (ina round about way) we have no choice? hint..surely you won't die?
In God's Word we are told that we have a choice based on free will and the true choice (based on true knowledge) will set you free.
