The only one I remember attending that was EXTREMELY hot was when I was 4 years old. 1978 in St.Louis, Missouri held at Busch Stadium. It was sweltering and I can remember begging my parents to take me out of the sun.

Disctrict conventions and hot days
by JH inas far as i can remember, the district convention was always the last week of june or first week of july in my region.
in either case it was always very hot out, and where we gathered for the convention it was always very hot there also.
this year would have been no exception since it was in the upper 80's and lower 90's since a few days here.. i can remember a couple of times when the temperature inside the olympic stadium in montreal was about 90f.

When Prophecy Fails - Part 2
by refiners fire inconcluding festingers observations of prophetic disappointment with a flying saucer cult in 1956.
the major period of expectation spanned 4 days, from 17th december when the faithful expected to be airlifted from the back garden to safety by flying saucers thru 21st december when the city and surrounding countryside would be inundated with floodwaters with total devastation the result.
the saucers were predicted to arrive at 4pm on the 17th..nothing happened:

Wow! That is bizarrely similar to the WTS tactics when their prophecies have failed to come true. That was actually kind of creepy for me to read but I thank you for sharing it with us, Refiner's Fire.

Apologies for any hurt feelings
by Simon ini know i probably go too far sometimes and can get a little 'determined' on some issues (my wife calls it pig headed & stubborn).
sometimes i am too blunt.
sometimes i won't let things go and want to prove my point.

Simon and Angharad,
Thank you, once again, for providing this forum. I appreciate your hard work and sacrifices made in order to keep up this site. I have enjoyed my time spent reading & chatting here.
I missed much of this political debating, since I was away from here for a few months. I generally refrain from joining in on those discussions here, anyway.
You are doing a fine job here. Thanks so much.

We did it -- we're married now!!
by Gopher injune 20th marked a new beginning for me and yourschelbie.. we had a justice-of-the-peace wedding, with just a few family and friends on hand.
the judge did a marvelous job of capturing the essence of the meaning of marriage in just a few minutes.
(and we weren't reminded that serving a publishing company should be the #1 priority in life, lol.).

Are You Happy That You Are The Color Or Nationality That You Are?
by minimus indo you wish that you were of a different race or heritage than you are ?
-
Banshee
Yes, I am happy with my color, nationality and heritage. I was fortunate to have access to a lot of family history from both maternal and paternal family. It is great to know about my ancestry and I am proud of my family heritage. I accept and like who I am today and that includes my color and nationality.

Here is a little something for those who did not receive a Valentine's Day card or gift today. This is from a daily meditation book called Believing in Myself by Earnie Larsen & Carol Hegarty.
"Love is not easy. Love costs."----Carl Sandburg
"Sometimes we forget the difference between symbols and substance when Valentine's Day rolls around. Spurred on by all the hearts, cupids, and lacy cards we see in the stores, we may unconsciously stake our self-esteem on whether or not we are remembered with a box of chocolates or a pretty bouquet. Of course we want to be and have a sweetheart on this official feast day of love! Who wouldn't?
"But that doesn't mean that those of us who aren't romantically involved are either unloved or unlovable. Romantic tokens are flattering and fun--but tokens aren't love itself. Many of the valentine tokens being given today are inspired by a sense of obligation--because old Hubert or Billy or Sam knows what's good for him! Some are even given to reduce guilt or to show off. Love itself costs a lot more than long-stemmed roses or even diamonds.
"Real love is measured out in steadiness, commitment, and unselfishness over the long haul. It has to do with willingness and forgiveness and just plain fortitude. It means being consistently mindful of someone else's welfare. If we are engaged in such relationships, we are fortunate indeed, whether or not we have someone on hand today to tell us how wonderful we are. It's love itself that's wonderful, not the tokens."
Happy Valentine's Day!
