Tribute to Kim Clijsters
by Leolaia intoday is kim clijsters' birthday and a month ago she announced her retirement from tennis.
i remember the week she was born very well.
i have watched tennis since the late '70s, and i remember when billie jean king was a star, when jimmy connors was a hot new thing, and when "virginia slims" matches were shown on wtbs.

Secret Santa 2010 update
by nugget injust thought i'd check in to see if anyone has received their gifts yet.
in the uk the country has ground to a halt due to the snow so it is likely that gifts to and from abroad are sitting in a snowy terminal somewhere, but i want to be sure that things were going smoothly elsewhere.. also thanks for all our fabulous cards i have now run out of shelf space it is awesome.. .

Please reccommend older Watchtower publciations for stumbling purposes
by TheStumbler infirst time poster here but i've been lurking a while.. i have a question that i was hoping some of the watchtower historians might be able to answer.
if a witness was willing to read some of the organisation's older publications, what books would you get them to read and how do i get these books?.
my family are witnesses and my father is an elder.

NEWSMAX - Jehovah Witnesses a publishing POWERHOUSE
by Smoky incheck out this link: http://w3.newsmax.com/a/oct10/jehovah/.
i received this link from a brother "in good standing", though i could not decide if the article (oct 2010), was a good thing (to boost wt ego's) or a negative apostate type of information.. i was more suprised at the fact the it was in a rightwing political magazine.
but what do i know.. any thoughts?.

1914? Pyramid? No Way. then I die. Will i still have the hope of Resurection?
by Smoky induring russell's time, when preaching door to door, if a person learn the truth, had a bible study, then learned and did not agree with the pyramid relationship to 1914, and did not become a jw subsuquently.
when the person dies.
does he have a hope for resurection, after rejecting the current truth at the time?.

Does it depend on What he rejected?

Father just named an ELDER...party! or not to party!
by Smoky ini just found out that the named my father an elder in his congregation.
which i find suprising for many reasons, but thats another story.
anyway my brothers & sisters invited me to go out to dinner with them and the families, in honor of my fathers new appointment, (2 of my bro are also ms, and had similiar "parties" after appointments).
-
Smoky
Thanks guys.
I am realizing my feelings about this is not just a conscience matter about the Elder appointment. I guess its more about what i feel about my Dad. me and my father dont have much of a relationship...for many reasons...but one thing is for sure...i try treat him as much, like he treated me all my life. LIke i dont give a Sh*t. Thats where i am at this time, im sure i will soften up as he gets older.
@
@ leavingwt: Many of my childhood friends are either MS or Elders now, which i have not ill feelings about, unless egomaniac try to throw at my face...then the gloves come off...stuck up bastards!
Does success as a Jehovah Witness measured on how high in the Totum pole you get?

Anyway my Brothers & Sisters invited me to go out to dinner with them and the families, in HONOR of my fathers new appointment, (2 of my bro are also MS, and had similiar "parties" after appointments). I politely declined. Did not find a reason to celebrate it. Just told my father "its going to be allot of work".
I kind of disturbed by this effort to put an importance behind the appointment...im not sure what to think..i guess i never had much of an interest in moving up in the congregation. My younger brother really embrasses his MS appointment as if it was a prestigious Status.
I wonder if there is a EMPOWERMENT feeling, when you get these positions? Like if you just won an Election...party!, but haven't the WT recently change the titles and lowered the Importance of elders in the congregations. (like they are the same as the "rank & file"). I dont know what to think of this, i thought it was a humbling previlege.
Do Elders and MS often celebrate there appointments?...does anyone seen this? How eleborate do they make them?
