He was one of the best if not the best! Enjoyed his "pickin" for over 40 years. All the others are just copies of Earl.

i have a question for my canadian friends here.
i go there often, and i see a tim hortons on pretty much every street, like mcdonalds is down here.
i've gone in to see what the fuss was all about, and all i saw were donuts and pastries i can find in every grocery store or gas station back home.
One of the managers where I am working brought in a can of Tim Horton's coffee and it is definitely great stuff! What I don't get is......TH is from Canada but this particular can of coffee has an Ohio packaging address on it.
Can anyone explain?

i know some who truly believed they were "gifts in men".
they needed their approval and wanted to be well spoken of by them.. i know some who can't stand elders and regard them as pests, always looking for some dirt on somebody.. i know some who liked maybe one or two but regarded the majority as unqualified.. how did you view the elders??
?.
Before I became an elder, I believed they actually had Jehovah's spirit (holy spirit). When I finally told them to shove it 5 years later I knew that they were a bunch of coniving, self serving bastards with no conscience or concern to the actual problems of individuals. They had their own agenda.

gosh i wish i was better at having religious discussions with jws.
this evening, as i am at home trying to relax, i get a phone call from the local jws who are evidently sitting in their kh dialing out.. i got this man who starts off by asking me if he can ask me a question.
"okaaaaay..." i say slowly.... "do you think..." he starts... and then stops... obviously losing his place in his pre-prepared sermon....
This is why I love caller ID. I don't answer if I don't want to talk and if it shows just a phone number without a name, I don't answer that either. I also have my voice mail deactivated so no one can leave a message. In the past 10 years I only got about 5 or 6 calls from JW's.
My cell phone is another thing. The only names that show up are those I have programed into it. If I get a call from a number I don't recognize, I don't answer.

i can't think of anything i'd voluntarily give up..
Why celebrate Lent? It is a Catholic tradition and is more false than any other Christian teaching.

dear friends,.
it has been a long time since i have posted.
time heals much pain, and finally, my family and i have been able to move on with our life outside of jw land.. many of you became our friends, our support system, and you know very well our exit story...we were labeled, slandered and disfellowshipped for having questions regarding the date 607. we sent out letters exposing the elders and circuit overseer to over 200 families.
Such good news and thanks for sharing your happiness and pride. I too have tears in my eyes reading this because my own daughter is out just like I am and is living her dream after years of heartache being in the borg.

anyone else ever hear the jw urban legend that tommy james of tommy james and the shondells was a jw for a time and that his song crystal blue persuasion was referring to the truth book.
i find no conformation of this or of tommy james ever being affiliated with the wt but was curious if anyone had ever heard this.. .
Here is what Wikipedia says....
"Crystal Blue Persuasion" is a 1969 song originally recorded by Tommy James and the Shondells and composed by Eddie Gray, Tommy James and Mike Vale.
A gentle-tempoed groove, "Crystal Blue Persuasion" was built around a prominent organ part with an understated arrangement, more akin to The Rascals' sound at the time rather than James's other efforts of the time with psychedelic rock.
It also included a melodic passages for an acoustic guitar, as well as a bass pattern, played between the bridge, and the third verse of the song.
The title of the song came to James while he was reading The Bible's Book of Revelation, according to James in a 1985 interview in Hitch magazine:
I took the title from the Book of Revelations[sic] in the Bible, reading about the New Jerusalem. The words jumped out at me, and they're not together; they're spread out over three or four verses. But it seemed to go together, it's my favorite of all my songs and one of our most requested.[1]
With an appropriate lighting scheme, the 2000s edition of Tommy James and the Shondells perform "Crystal Blue Persuasion"
However, according to James's manager, James was actually inspired by his reading of the Book of Ezekiel where it speaks of the Blue Shekinah Light which represented the presence of the Almighty God and the Books of Isaiah and Revelation where it speaks of a bright future of a brotherhood of mankind living in peace and harmony.[2]

Tommy James wrote a book in 2010 titled "Me, The Mob, & The Music". A friend of mine lent it to me and it was a great read. Tells about his entire life and career. He also tells how the song Crystal Blue Persuasion came to be and it his explanation has nothing to do with the JW's......unless he wants to hide a part of his life.

i was having coffee at a starbucks located in a supermarket chain in one of the towns i work in my business .
while sitting there doing paperwork , what looked like 3 elders on their field service break sat at a table no more than 4 feet from me .
after eavesdropping it was obvious they were elders as they were talking about the c.o.
Good go Flipper!
You made them shudder and think.
I often wonder what kind of printed material and the subject it should touch on that I should carry with me in case I was ever in that type of situation.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
