In the late 70's, my father gave me an 8-track recording of Flatt & Scruggs' Carnegie Hall concert from 1962. I became an instant fan. Earl passed away yesterday, but his music will live forever. He was among the greatest banjo players the world has known. RIP.

Here are two tracks from that 1962 album.

I think most of us not familiar with country music would best know him from the theme song of The Beverly Hillbillies.

Good point! Everyone has heard that one.

Can't forget that he was part of Bill Monroe's Blue Grass boys before Flatt & Scruggs.

He helped revolutionize modern bluegrass music, introducing the three finger picking instead of clawhammer style on banjo.

    ah... Doc and Earl...

Thanks for that LWT... Doc Watson is a hero in these here parts. And I've had the pleasure of seeing him and Earl Scruggs both play up in the those hills...

undercover: You're welcome and thank you for adding those details. I'm jealous of you having seen them play.

He was one of the best if not the best! Enjoyed his "pickin" for over 40 years. All the others are just copies of Earl.
