three little words that work !!
(1)the three little words are: "hold on, please..." .
saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt.

Talespin, whats an "MP" ?
Just wondering....
one slightly used briefcase.
also known as a "service bag".
all leather, great condition.
That reminds me of a reallllly funny story......funny to me anywaz...
My PO Step father came to visit my family and I, and at that point we had not been to a meeting for like a year. He does not approve, of course, but he loves his grandkids, so he visits now and again. The funny part is, when he came, he said he had been looking in the stores for a new briefcase for meetings. I said, "You can have mine!, I dont use it and dont plan to for a while!" He is a pretty cheapskate of a person, so he was glad to take it. The briefcase was very nice, and he enjoyed having it very much...so much that what I had told him did not even settle in. A few days later, he called, kinda depressed sounding..and said.."You know, I dint think about it when you gave it to me, but you really dont plan to go to meetings?" I assured him that it was temperary becuase of the young kids.......
That night that he took the briefcase home, I told my wife and we just laughed and laughed.....
It was just so funny that he was so happy to get the briefcase, that he dint get why he was getting it! Mabye thats just funny to us....

when i was a little boy, the book study conductor would get the children to count how many times "jehovah" was said during the book study.
anyone remember this?.
they should update the games for the new millenium, and children should be now asked to count how mnay times "soon" is said during the study...as in "soon jehovah will bring the new system...", "soon the new system will arrive", "soon the righteous will eat oreoloes and milk all their lives"..... soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon soon .

you are fading, and dont want your friends / family from out of town to know that you no longer want to be a jw.
they may know that you are not going to all the meetings, or not.
but since the biggest deal to them has been the memorial, they expect that you went.. we did not go.
Thanks guys! Lots of good ideas. We are on the verge of telling the truth, plain and simple. Ya'll know how it is..hem and haw...

i was wondering if anybody feels like i do that if i hadn't been raised a jw i would never have embraced the religion.
i know it's easier to say in hindsight after i know the truth about the org but honestly i don't think i would have given them the time of day.
i'm not a religious person or even a spiritual person and being a jw always caused a conflict in my mind.
I think that I would never think of them. I think when they come to the door, I would dismiss them, not really thinking much about them. They are such a small group, and all you hear is jokes about them really. Everything heard about them is usually negotive. Mabye a positive honesty story or quickbuild story in the news every so often.
I used to imagine if my mom had never took hold of the the troof. Mine is a long story, yet somehow common here. My father was an alcohlic, and he tried to kill my mother when he killed himself when I was two months old. I had always wondered if she dint fight about going to the meetings if he'd have done it. I dont honestly know that I like the flip side of the results. I would have probally been a normal dork, instead of a JW Dork. Thinking that way always makes me think the what ifs...every event in life has the power to change a whole long list of changes, each one changing the next. Who knows? I guess now I am glad that it all worked out and I am here, but I sure would have prefered not to be a JW, most of the time.

Class,
I agree 100% with that logic. I would certainly use that, but I dont want any confrontation. When it comes to reasons later, that will spill out fast.

I know I cant be alone with this. You are fading, and dont want your friends / family from out of town to know that you no longer want to be a JW. They may know that you are not going to all the meetings, or not. But since the biggest deal to them has been the Memorial, they expect that you went.
We did not go. Our first time we missed it. Our family member has asked twice if we went via email, and I have so far ignored it. Sooner or later, when we speak on the phone or in person, he will ask and I will be cornered.
As you know, the opinion of our once loving family member would sour all the more. In fact, that could draw a line that would hurt feelings both ways. I know some of you are out there thinking, just tell them you did not go! Stand up for yourself and what you believe! I dont plan to go that route. However, I do not want to lie either. So, what should I say when he asks? There has to be a clever way of saying it.
"Naaa, not this time, maybe next year."
"Mind your own business!"
"Dont worry about our spirituality"
My DW is getting tired of the game, and its her family anyway, so this might lead to the big realization for the family that hey, they are worldly! That is so scary. Not as scary as actually going back to meetings though.
