Are we like jilted lovers?
by Fatfreek inmoments ago on good morning america they did a piece on a recovering mormon, heather armstrong.
the point of it seemed to be that she is handling her depression in part through her blogging journal.
an analyst on that show recounted how armstrong is, in effect, receiving group therapy by her online blogging.. my thoughts immediately went to this forum and how it is so therapeutic to many, me included, as recovering jws.

Some took the initiative to leave and others were either disfellowshipped or were just not loved, so even if you were not formally dropped that's really not all that different.
However your question is are we like jilted lovers, present tense. The fact is some may be, but some may really, really care less (or is it couldn't care less..?) at this point. Rather than like someone hung up on it, it's like the lover you later realized was nuts or just kind of immature. I guess it all depends on whether you have changed, I for one do not dwell on that crush I had with Wendy Johnson back in the 7th grade.. You outgrow these things.

I don't know what you had in mind but I was thinking of a JW trying to be funny in some way, which in my experience seem to be either dry and uptight or canned stuff from other sources. Reminds me of that episode of Family Guy where they stopped at an Indian casino watching a stand-up named 'Carrot Scalp' and Stewie yells "Very funny - now tell the one that doesn't suck!"

LOVE is the sign
by LouBelle inin my jc meeting i kept on at the elders about love.
that there was no love being shown in the congregations & even toward me on how they were dealing with the whole situation & towards my mother.
i mentioned that there were only 2 commandments given to us - 1. to love god & 2. to love our neighbour.

Unity by an imposed doctrine is a poor substitute for love.Big as they are on the headship trip, it's no wonder that there is little love in the heirarchical organization that is the WTS. We can say there is a unity (which is a perfectly good word outside of the context of that experience, of course) between the mind and the heart as far as how it functions, which is only a reflection of how love works, you might say. Considering that such an organization is so "top-heavy" in it's imposed unity, it is clearly not unified in this sense nor is such unification present in the individuals taking the lead, as seen in the different experiences. In fact, as an organization one might ask where the heart of the WTS is at.
But at a certain point we need to move past this little group identification anyway. Yes there are those Christians who have love amongst themselves, that's one kind of identification, but what does that other scripture say: "If you only love those loving you, what reward do you have?" It's not a big deal for any unified group to have it amongst themselves, if it doesn't touch anyone else. Similarly there are no doubt love among those here who share a similar experience with the JW past, perhaps even more so if you share a current way of thinking or whatever. Quite natural of course, but in itself it is just limited. If we "widen out" (yeah I know that part is a bit too JWish ) we might even find we don't need to have people who understand our past in this way, love itself is enough.

I've known a couple of people who are type 1, so just echoing everybody that it can be manageable. The two guys I knew had a pump too and while you have to test regularly they are able to manage very well.

Perhaps All Roads do Lead to Rome
by LouBelle ini enjoy discussing god with people from all walks of life & all beliefs.
this is just something that has been skipping about in my brain...is it possible that god appeared to different cultures as different gods????
to the jews of the ancient days he appeared as yahweh, to the buddhist as budda, to the christians as jesus, to the moselim as allah etc etc.. i know the witnesses taught that everyone doesn't worship the true god & not all religions lead to god.

That is one of the most interesting things I've ever heard. How is it possible I've never thought of that before??
... probably because of the tendancy to stick with a particular structure when it comes to thinking.
Sure, if nothing else we just have to work with the structure of language, but if we just take a step back and look at how just this particular discussion takes shape we see it sticks very closely to certain concepts to make it work - the idea of a personal God, religion being a path and so forth. If that's all one knows, sure, the best bet is to reason with them within those confines. But then in that process you are reinforcing the same operational limits, (not necessarily just for the other party) and thinking becomes very rigid rather than fluid and free flowing. From that perspective it's hard to get too excited about the same concepts arranged in a different way.
So as far as the topic is concerned, I wouldn't say all paths lead to Rome - I would say all LEGO are little plastic bricks.

"You are truly just a simple creature."
by Markfromcali inthe above subject is a quote from the movie dogma, and that just describes how i feel when i read about all the jw related stuff.
i guess the "how dumb can wts pubs be" threads and my own reply of the family guy quote to the jws on therapy thread just got me thinking about this.
do you guys ever just look at it all and be like ".. where do you even start with this?

It's not to put anyone down, but we all know a certain process of maturation is needed for people to get certain things. It's like what can you really say to catch someone up to be a mature human being anyways, you know?
And there are millions of them..
