"You are truly just a simple creature."

The above subject is a quote from the movie Dogma, and that just describes how I feel when I read about all the JW related stuff. I guess the "how dumb can WTS pubs be" threads and my own reply of the Family Guy quote to the JWs on therapy thread just got me thinking about this. Do you guys ever just look at it all and be like ".. where do you even start with this?"

It's not to put anyone down, but we all know a certain process of maturation is needed for people to get certain things. It's like what can you really say to catch someone up to be a mature human being anyways, you know?

And there are millions of them..

i think that is truly the sad thing about thought control techniques. a person, let's say an elder with a good job (for a change), IS a mature person up to a point. that point is right before cognitive dissonance. he will not let himself go there, for fear. why? thought control. not very mature. stunted or suppressed critical thinking abilities, right?

but apart from that he seems normal, and is normal, in many other cultural ways. his thought control is a kind of retardation. as a result, he's a simple creature, by my standards.

yeah, i feel the same way. it used to be exasperation, but now it's more like pity. i just have to shake my head.

lately, i've been looking at it like this:

statistically, no matter what you come up with, someone will believe it. it's inevitable that there will always be 'fringe' groups of any religion, political structure, art form...whatever. usually it's completely benign, but even the truly harmful belief structures statistically HAVE to have true believers. i'm not saying that there's no hope for those that are currently JWs (that, unfortunately, they're fated to be diehards), i'm just saying that to aspire to "bring the WT down" is somewhat futile (at least on a large scale). there will always be true believers. i'm content with the 80/10/10 rule (in this case, 80% for all intents and purposes don't care, 10% are adamently opposed, and 10% are diehards). for me, this view takes away the exasperation when i seem to make no progress on my parents. i won't give up on them, but it's not worth stressing over because it's inevitable that some people will believe no matter what.
